my kitten barney (who is nearly 5 months) will be going out for the first time tomorrow after hes been to the vets and i was just wondering if anyone has any tips or advice.
we dont have a cat flap (we cant as our property is rented) so i will have to keep checking if hes come back (which i hope he does). i will be worried about him as hes like one of our kids, but hes desperate to go out. so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go out with him, and perhaps attatch a lead to his collar. Only let him go out for short spaces of time and supervise him for the first few times. Let him take his time and explore at his own speed! For the first week or so, only let him go out when you are in for a few hours at a time, then he will get used to coming back home and hopefully have a great time outdoors! Good luck!

i posted a sililar topic a few weeks ago i let mine out unsupervised and he climbed a tree after a crow!! now i just leave the door open and he comes and goes making friends with the ginger tom that pops over to say hello and his no fear approach to dogs (he lives with a boxer and has all dogs popping in to my house) he was seen last night following a man up the road ...well i think he was really trying to make friends with the mans jack russel !!! and before this i was sooooooo worried about letting him out but its just how we are, a little to worried, ,they end up proving they are absolutly fine !!!dont worry just get his food ready and when he comes back give him a nice treat,,good luck blade 4ever.......oh and mine had his first outdoor wee last night too ,,i was so proud ha ha

Don't feed him when you let him out, that way, when you rattle the biscuit tin, he'll come running and get used to remembering where he lives. Little and often to start with. Hope he enjoys his new found freedom -oh and make sure he's microchipped in case he loses his collar (which cats are infuriatingly good at doing) so that if someone finds him, he can be reunited with you.

our kitten has escaped a few times (he is desperate to go outside) but he is just a mad loon, running flat out. The last time he escaped he ran into the road and decided to play under the cars. We nearly had heart failure trying to catch him. He's getting the snip next month, so I hope it 'calms' him down a bit.

I'm dreading him going out.
