Whose idea was it to put cobblestone on fargate? :loopy:

Completely child/prams and disabled/Wheelchair unfriendly.

I very rarely (4-5 times a year) visit town centre and I'm not sure how bad this is. But Saturday just gone, I really noticed it around Boots area of Fargate and I thought it was bad and for some reason it didn't look/feel complete to me.

You will notice the cobblestones are only down the middle in the are where people hang about and where all the planters, ads etc are located, the main walkways along the shop fronts is smooth paving.

I guess the main reason for the cobbles is to look nice, and complements the style of the street that runs past the top from central library.

I was told that the main reason for using cobblestones was to protect the surface against damage from delivery lorries.
If you ever go down Fargate late at night or early in the morning it is full of huge lorries delivering to the stores. If the surface was paved with normal paving slabs they would have cracked within a week or the Fargate refurbishment - it would have looked unsightly, and would probably hae ended up uneven and more difficult to walk across than the cobbles. Cobblestones can take the load much better, apparently.
