I'm think of switching to Sky broadband from my current supplier BT. I've no complaints about BT but Sky's new offer for Sky+ with phone and broadband would save me a bit of money each month. Is any on here using Sky broadand in the Crookes area and if so what download speeds are you getting? I currently get about 6mb with bt and that's on their 8mb package. It looks like Sky do a 16mb speed package - Has anyone got that and if so what speeds do you get with it?
Thanks for any help.
Paddy.
It all depends how close you are to the exchange, if you're more than 3.5 km away, your speeds will be crap.
My Dad's on the free Sky BB package in Stannington (exchange is at Wadsley Bridge), and it's PAINFULLY slow IMO)

Doesn't Sky broadband use the same phone line and exchange as the BT broadband?

Yes, but it depends if there's sky LLU equipment in the exchange or not. If there is you'll end up with the up to 16mb service, if not then it'll be standard ADSL (ie up to 8mb).
You can check if there's sky LLU at your exchange by putting your phone number into the checker at http://www.samknows.com
Hope that helps,

We switched from BT to sky a couple of months ago,Bt has started taking liberties with £4.00 just for paying your bill.
no problems here, cant really say performance is any different to what it was before although the bills are.

If you are getting 6mb now, you could expect around 10mb or more from Sky Max LLU, (thats just a very rough guess).
If you are on the Broomhill exchange, then that does have Sky LLU available.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I think I'm going to order the 16mb package for £10 month and see what that's like. Now all I need is a smooth switch over from BT broadband to Sky broadband. Something tells me that it's not going to be straight forward and I'll probably be on the phone a great deal to customer services.
