View Full Version : Rivelin Valley, Wyming Brook Sunday 20th July
neoteric 14-07-2008, 06:40 This Sunday's walk is a favourite of mine, and offers the opportunity of an easier shorter walk (3-4 miles) by just doing the Rivelin Valley bit, or a longer walk by carrying on up the beautiful Wyming Brook to Lodge Moor (approx 8 miles) where we will stop for a lunch break at either the Sportsman or the Three Merry lads.
Meet up at the Rivelin Valley Cafe in Rivelin Valley Park and start out from there at 10:00am, anyone wanting to fuel up with bacon sarnies before we set of can get there earlier.
Everyone is welcome to come along.
I'll be along on this one
We'll be there

Tallyman 15-07-2008, 22:28 Sorry not to be able to make it to this one either, but it's a lovely walk. Hope you have great weather. Is cake not obligatory at every walk then?

canada_girl 17-07-2008, 14:07 We're baaack! Trip to Canada was lovely and cannot beleive we've come back to all this rain :( (sigh).
Hope to join you on this but will have to see if the jet legged induced fogginess in my brain lifts by then. They've also messed up Cookman's schedule and put him down to work on Sunday
I would also like to announce in about 4 months there will be a new member to the walking group. . probably the youngest member ever! I'm due to have a little girl at the end of Nov!!
Welcome back!!!!! Hope to see you before we go away!

Here we are back in dear old cold, rainy blighty and pleased to say that I wouldn't miss this one for the world. Had a great time over the pond, and will be more than pleased to display the tan at every possible opportunity if anyone's interested :suspect:
Managed a few `hikes` as they`re called in North America while we were over there, but I'm afraid to say that I badly need some proper walks to get rid of the extra pounds gained :(
Will definitely be at the cafe early doors for the traditional pre-walk brekkie, but it may be diet-controlled I'm afraid :(:(
See y'all Sunday!
should be on this one, may be 2 along.
taxman said lots of cake?
cake and a postcode for the cafe would be real nice!

billysmum 18-07-2008, 10:14 I'm back from North America so will be joining you all for this. Looking forward to seeing you all again

Neily really sorry to hear that, if it's fraud then you are not liable for anything, but these things take sorting out and I know how it feels.
Also I notice that I'd missed some of your PMs because my inbox was full - it's cleared now if you need to send a message.
Hope the move in goes well

Really sorry to hear that, Neily, must be very upsetting. Hope you can get things sorted out OK.
Well its a glorious morning so if there are any waverers up at this time then come and join us
Change of plan for us i'm afraid - i'm up and ready for the off - but Inkie major is still in the land of nod (v. late night last night). Unless IM gets up in the next 30s won't be there i'm afraid but have a gud 'un.
neoteric 20-07-2008, 15:06 Another great day's walking and Wyming brook was as beautiful as ever. this is just a quick post as I need to sort my Cedit Card out - is someone targetting walking group memebers I wonder?
Anyhow I made that 16 on today's walk - who were Scoobz, Taxman, Parkwoman + Rob, Hemlock + Mr Hemlock, Nooka, vincentvega, Mack633 + Eli, VHFMan, Mencap Posse of 4 and neoteric.
Nice to see Scoobz back but sadly Billysmum couldn't make it so we will have to leave all the hugging and congratulations and crying until next time.
Will post my one or two photos later - got photographers block at moment!
Another great day out along Rivelin and up Wyming Brook which is the most magical in Sheffield.
Another impressive turnout and the rain held off as well. A good pint in The Sportsman at Lodge Moor as well
Bathtime now, photos may be posted later but I'm a bit rushed so you may have to wait until tomorrow :)
vincentvega 20-07-2008, 15:36 A nice steady walk through R. Valley & a very impressive one up Wyming Brook, really enjoyed the walk with a great bunch of people :) Great to see the Mencap posse again  & also our canadian GL :) Hope you enjoy the pics http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/vincentvega1966/20080720RivelinValleyWymingBrook
Lovely walk to get back in to the swing of things, and great to meet lots of new people today who hopefully will come again soon.
Good lot of banter taking place today, missed this over the last 3 weeks, you can't beat Sheffield folk for mickey-taking can you? Speaking of which...........well done Nooka for managing a 3 course meal & what looked like about 4 pints in our lunch stop.........nice surprise too from Mack633, who provided everyone with the world famous (?) Dutch product of chocolate chip cookies met pendips. Quite!
Wyming Brook is so beautiful isnt it, I always enjoy walking up there! Was a lovely day, glad it stayed dry! Was nice to meet some new people and have a good chat with some members i havent seen in a while. Really enjoyed my dinner at the Sportsman too, top pub that is!
neoteric 20-07-2008, 17:31 Well if it makes you feel any better Neily my Credit Card has just enjoyed a nice expensive 5* holiday - without me of course. I've just spent the last 2 hours speaking to the Fraud department, going through and agreeing the genuine transactions. It's all sorted now, the card has been cancelled but I may not get a replacement before my holiday next weekend which is a pain as I may have to use my Debit Card or Cash.
Anyhow back to more pleasant things - as promised the few photos (http://picasaweb.google.com/neotericwalks/RivelinValleyWymingBrookSunday20thJuly) from today's walk - I think you can see that scoobz is back and on top form.
Will miss walking with you lot whilst I'm out in the wilds of Scotland, and maybe Ireland as well, this is just one of the walks (http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/lochinver/suilven/index.html) I'm planning, I just love those mountains.
Great walk today - our last for a couple of weeks. Sorry to hear about your credit card neo, hope it doesn't cause you too much of a problem.
Here are my photos (http://picasaweb.google.com/paulinezel/RivelinWymingBrook)
Lovely to meet lots of new peeps, really good chatting to you all, hope to see you all again when we get back from our hols.

Some smashing pics from everybody today, despite the unfavourable light. Might just bring my camera one day & surprise everybody, that is, if someone else leads the way for once of course!
