The Halifax is it a bank or a building society, and how many branches are there in Sheffield and surrounding areas, they seem to be on nearly every street.

The Halifax doesn't exist.

It's now Halifax Bank of Scotland PLC.

It's a Bank, and became one in the late 1990s, then merged with BoS a couple of years later.

Halifax (established in Halifax) is shortly to be merged with the national bank of Iowatha (a red indian bank).

I will post the link when i find it.

It is technically neither.

It is a PLC and thats it. Not a bank, not a building society. Just somewhere in between.

I have always used it as a bank.

Look at this thread here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36965&highlight=cars)
