Just taken delivery of a Samsung D500 mobile phone and I think I need to buy a USB dongle to get the best from it.
Seeing as though I don't really know what I'm on about (as per usual) I thought someone out there might be able to let me know the basic functions of a dongle and where I can get one from.
Off back to bed - I'm on the night shift!!
Thanks in advance;
MT.
A dongle is usually a security device used to protect a piece of software or hardware from piracy or theft.
If you didn't get a dongle with the phone, you've either been shortchanged or what you need isn't what's normally called a dongle.

Do you mean a USB Bluetooth dongle? They are quite good, as for what functions you can do it all depends on the phone really.
My Sony Ericsson T610 let's me upload and download ringtones, images and java games. There's also other features such as Syncronising with outlook and stuff but mostly i use mine to upload ringtones i find on the net.

Just need something to allow me to transfer mp3 music files from my pc to my phone.
As you're probably aware - me and technology are complete strangers!!
Thanx again,
MT.

I bought a Bluetooth Dongle with my Samsung D500 mobile, I have just tried to install the software and am finding difficulty in doing so. It states that the hardware isn't authorised by Microsoft and advised not to install, there was however an option to install anyway which i did, but that still didnt work. The make of Dongle is I.Tech Mini Bluetooth USB Dongle. I just don't know what to do! Can anyone help !! !!
I got a similar message when i installed mine. First of all look on the makers website to see if they have updated drivers. If they don't then the ones you've got installed should do the job.
If you open My Computer do you have an option called "My Bluetooth Devices" or something similar? If you do then great it has installed and clicking on this should bring up a list of phones that are bluetooth enabled that are in range.
When you connect to a phone for the first time it'll popup asking for you to type a sort of PIN number and you phone should do the same. What ever you type in should be the same pin on both the machine and phone. This is to prevent unauthorised access to phones and usually it saves a list of trusted devices so you should only need to do it once.

I have a samsung d500 and this is exactly what I brought to get it working with the PC properly. It works an absolute treat, it was a bit of a pain getting some things working, like transferring games over but I have around 40+ games now and lots of ringtones, for free!
Hi again,
just a word of warning about these free java games. It's been known that a small percentage of the java games found online that work with phones do contain rogue dialers that dial a premium rate number direct from your phone without telling you.

Another word of warning about those free java games. I sent a hundred or so to may brother on a cd and one caused his Nokia to crash. He had to have it factory reset before it would work properly again.

I used a tutorial and a precompiled list of tested games for the samsung d500 found through a mobile forum and also this site: http://315.fiberworld.nl/d500/. I've found a few of the games freeze the phone when it is on silent, after a few seconds the java games is closed automatically and the phone carries on as normal. Apart from that I've had no problems.
