Does anybody know where Jack Walker is? He was quite a character who lived in the Ecclesfield area and I worked with him in the building trade about 1967. He once went into a pub with me and ate a big doorstep of a sandwich he had made for his dinner.
can you give more details of this jack walker??? which builder did he work for. how old would he be now.

I remember Jack. I think he passed away some time ago. If not, he will be well into his eighties by now. At one time he lived in Johnson Lane at Ecclesfield. I will ask around
if its the j w im thinking of,he lived on crosshill for a while, often wore a woolly hat and always said hello to anyone who he met,
i remember him sat on a gate whittling a stick down with his penknife :)
he once worked as a bookies runner, and for a while lived rough in the woods or in an old signal box over at smithy wood,
he was an ex para (my dads uncle served with him) dad says he was never the same after being in the army,
one of the old "characters" of ecclesfield
my mates dad worked with him and his son/brother for a while too,
JJ..

I have asked around and been told that Jack did die some years ago. His last address was at 212 High Street (corner of High Street and Cross Hill). I know that he belonged to quite a large family at one time - all in Ecclesfield. My informant says that if he was living, he would now be 84 years old.
Thanks for the information Nigel
