Everytime I open my browser i get a message asking me if I want to install Macromedia Flash Player 7.

Am I likely to need this and is it safe to install?

I can't seem to get rid of this pop up message

I get a similar message but only it's asking me if I want to install Macromedia 10.

You only need it if you want to view Flash content. For the most part it is safe to install (though there are possible security issues due to it's use of ActionScript and ability to interface with PHP, ASP, Perl etc).

If you're getting this message whenever you start your browser simply change your home page to something other than what it is at present. Then never visit a website that uses Flash (impossible to do, as it is quite prolific and rather cool).

BTW. I've got Flash on all the machines here, as the security threat has not been seen in the wild (as far as I'm aware). I also use Flash on some of the sites I own.

Either that, or the current Flash Player is auto updating. Think I've had this before on one of the machines here. Just install it, but as it might not be an actual pop-up from Flash Player itself you might be better going to the Macromedia home page and instaling it from there.

Yeah, flash in fine to install. After all, without how else could you view dancing kittens on b3ta
