Last Tuesday I checked my bean plants in my mini greenhouse and found two snails had eaten about half of them. I despatched them both to snail heaven and thought that was the end of it.

I checked them again yesterday and found about 20 baby snails. Now I don't want to cast aspersions but it has crossed my mind that the female of any species are remarkably alike!

Well, I'm confused? :huh:

I think snails are androgenous (male and female) and if there aren't any other snails can get themselves pregnant.

You can eat them too, they are a good source of protein. I think boiling would be the best bet. But you need to make sure they haven't been eating anything poisonous before you eat them.

One sautes snails in butter with lots of garlic. On no account should you boil them, it will make them rubbery (insert chinese restaurant joke here).

I would never eat snails..its disgusting. Can you eat slugs, they are much easier to get hold of, just wait for the rain and check the paths. Surely snails are nothing more than a slug with a house.:confused:

Oh, I wouldn't eat them either. I just know you shouldn't boil them. I like chips, me.

They taste just like mushrooms.

:gag: i couldnt bring myself to eat a snail or slug .... eww. got a SAS guide somewhere that tells you how to cook them properly if your out in the wilderness with nothing else to eat :gag: :gag: :gag:

Incidentally, if you have a garage with a pitched roof, you know as in slanted, and it - the roof - is tiled with slate. Slate tiles, you understand. Well, if it rains and it's like, really wet. And if you can find a snail. Put it on the roof and observe it. You'll see it sort of glides along on a cushion of snot. It will travel upwards at a phenomenal rate and you will be delighted. Try it, you'll see. It'll be grate.

Try touching a slug with the terminals of a PP3 9volt battery, its not quite as funny as holding one on a dogs wet nose but still mildly amusing.

Hey, I love being mildly amused. If I wasn't so knackered I'd go out right now and try it. Can you cook snails/slugs with a PP3 9volt battery?

Yes you can eat slugs, but they aren't quite as nice as snails. Snails are yummy!

You cant cook them but you can definately spoil there day. 5 minutes on the battery and they are begging for the salt.
