I want to buy a birthday cake this week for my fella. Can anyone recommend a shop in town that makes good cakes? Don't want anything too showy just something better than i could make.
Would have to pick it up on Friday so ideas quick please in case i need to order it.
Thanx folks.

Fancy you knowing where the best cakes can be found Shieshuk! :o

I'd recommend Staniforths bakers; they do them to order, and look very good!

Try Jesney's on Chesterfield Road,Woodseats,it's a family business, they will probably need two weeks notice, but well worth it.

We've had some nice cakes done for my boy from a place in hackenthorpe called, I think, Celebration Cakes. We have ordered cakes in the shape of his favourite cartoon characters etc. & they were about £15. I don't know if Hackenthorpe is a bit out of your way.

Thorntons do good cakes.I'm not sue if they stock them in all the little town shops, but I've had them from sainsburys in abbeydale before.
You'll never beat a home made cake though , because it has the special ingreedient in , which cant be bought from a shop(your love).dead simple victoria sponge, let it cool, fresh whipped cream with a bit of icing sugar added, and fresh strawberries, yummy!you can buy litle fancy chocolate decorations in aldi, so I'm sure their available in most supermarkets.thats what I'd do anyway. So many bought cakes are either sickly or dry.
