View Full Version : New fence panels being stolen on Shiregreen!
There seems to be a new craze on the shiregreen. Forget about having the lead nicked off your front door canopy. It looks like they`ve started making away with the new fence panels that sanctuary are putting in. I`m on renathorpe and there are 2 houses with all the panels missing. Has anyone else become a victim of this new craze?

I've seen 2 houses on the Wybourn which are empty and for sale, and both have had all the fence panels lifted out. (maybe it was the ex owners!)
puddinburner 11-07-2008, 06:55 Problem with Sanctuary, they use cheapo contractors who never secured the panels properly. So the toerags just lift them off and run, poss sell them for quick profit.
I've heard Sanctuary are now running very low on cash and have stopped offering the brick wall steel railing alternative, also the block paving is now out of the options....Well done Sanctuary, your promise of a nice done up estate have not been met, yet again!
There is of course the possibility that the tenants did'nt like the cheapo fence and took it off themselves as it's an eyesore. Know I would if they'd palmed me off with that ****.
Could well be. These panels seem to have been taken in daylight as they were there in the morning when i left for work but gone at night when i got home. The cheek of some theives
puddinburner 11-07-2008, 07:14 Lol...we're going to have to go on OB's for this one, will report back if I see owt, cos I'm naturally nosey;)
Have got my suspitions, as a certain someone has returned to Renathorpe and he'll pinch anything, including hoovers and kitchen sinks.
Whereabouts on renathorpe?

Now you being nosey! lol, obviously can't say as we don't want a vigilante scenario. Inoccent until proven guilty etc...then let of with a £3 fine and two hours community service if caught red handed. Deffo road though, thats all I'll say.

could be anyone, they have also lifed them from the empty propertys on Heart-Break Ave. There are that many scrap men coming down here at the mo it's a nightmare, we get an average of 3per day, all different, we even get mates of the workmen coming down to pick stuff up. Did you know they are even taking the tops off the sewer drains, the smell is awful, had to get FHM to put a lg paving slab over the one at the house nxt dr to me. Feel so sorry for the people who have moved out and are to go back in these houses that they have "refurbished" I for one am not letting them anywhere nr mine to do anything.
puddinburner 11-07-2008, 08:27 Really strange:suspect: have just spotted another row of missing panels on Ronksley Road.
Have seen the scrap men too, real dodgey looking characters, don't think they're proper scrap men for a second but what can we do? got to spot them doing something dodgey before anyone takes notice.
LOL... not like the old rag and bone man with horse, who gave balloons and goldfish away to us kids.
I reckon they're doing us a favour getting rid of those horrible fence panels.
I agree, Sanctuary should have kept to their word and given people the walls with railings. For all we know could be FHM workmen taking them to use somewhere else to save money, it's not like Sanctuary are gonna replace to missing ones, that would be up to the tenent

What exactly are proper scrap men
puddinburner 11-07-2008, 10:58 Proper scrap men carry valid licences to allow them to collect scrap issued by the local council. Gypsies don't and generally look shifty.
The house opposite us had the manhole cover nicked the a bloke from sanctuary came to clear the garden and fell down the hole. Poor sod scraped all the skin off his shins :(
puddinburner 11-07-2008, 12:05 oooooh ouch!!!! They'll nick anything won't they? I just call 101 if I see owt sussy, then if they got time to send someone round they usually turn up next day. Got a decent collar the other night though, made a change they turned up in two seconds flat and got a lad round back, red handed, they sent CID too, which was amazing! " your NOT going anywhere mate!"
Got to speak to proper cops in control rather than civi's, then you may get lucky and get the job done!:hihi:

What`s "101" Not heard of that number. I usually ring 2202020 and end up on hold for ages.
101, is now the nbr to ring for the police for none emergencys. Actually they are very good, they deal with cars parked across your drive, noisey nieghbours, gangs hanging round that sort of thing, any thing where you don't need them asap.

That's right....If you dial 101, they put you through to a control room at Atlas Court, this is manned by very nice call takers who take your details / problem on board then decide who is best to deal with it.
Could be police, could be council or local housing office.
I would suggest if you see something requiring urgent police attention, always dial 999 ( intruder, someone acting sussy, breaking into cars etc)
Things like abondoned cars, graffiti, problem neighbours etc should go to 101.
Common sense really, 101 is very good, the people on the phones are ace and generally know who you need, straight away.:)
As well as fence panels,I was walking down Hartley Brook road from the shops towards Beck and the walls that have been built have been smashed. I would love mine with a wall around they look so nice I can't believe the idiots that have done this:confused:The bus shelter panel is on the floor too someone has gone on a rampage.
I know the wall you mean, just down from the shops. I was waiting in the shelter yesterday and nearly leant on the missing panel. I would have looked silly :|

It is because of the work thats being done that the estate is looking worse than it's ever done. I'm not saying the work doesn't need doing, it does. I'ts the workmen that have been employed to do it that are at fault. They have no respect or consideration for the estate or the people who live on it. (And we will soon get a thingy saying threads merging if we carry on.)
What do you reacon are the chances of sanctuary replacing them? I think pretty slim
I have to apologise to the theives of shiregreen. I thought the panels had been stolen. It turns out sanctuary had taken them away for painting and are bringing them back today. Sorry theives.:hihi:
puddinburner 14-07-2008, 10:41 Well, thank goodness for that! Sanctuary doing the right thing? whatever next?:hihi:
Thought the theives were doing us a favour getting rid of those horrible fences but never mind, not sure you have to apologise though. They'll still pinch anything in these parts.
