Glastonbury just showed how poor the tight-trousered half-starved indie boy band thing has become.

No new sounds, no new ideas, no new talent.

Elbow came on, a bunch of old codgers that know each other and their music inside out and blew the crowd away for all the right reasons.

So folks, what's next?

Where's the next McClaren or Hannett to produce? Social poets like Johnson and Cocker? Voices like Ferry or Gano? The funky noises like Williams and Clinton? And the mad bad boys who don't need a press officer to call round before they throw a punch.

There's a lot of great bands coming up on the Manchester scene in my opinion. The Naughtys, The Ronnies,.. big fan of Twisted Wheel who can be seen at plug shortly. My Auntie Sam from Liverpool are also great.

It's weird as I get into these bands then they either fade away or get moderate success... it's like the Wombats... kill the director came on radio 1 this morning and i thought ooh i've not heard that for ages! I then worked out when i first liked them - just over two years ago! I'm not a complete scenester, I still like bands when they get famous, but I do like looking out newer ones as well.

Lots of great bands playing at Doncaster live which is on the 18/19th (camping meet weekend for me so i won't be there for most of it) Tea and biscuits which are some younger lads, are a good one to watch out for... I think they are very McFly but they are aiming more for linkin park so they'd kill me for saying that.

Agreed, Indie boybands bore the pants off me! I used to love indie in the 90's but just can't bare it the past few years. There's nothing new about the majority of bands that apear on the scene, surely people are going to tire of this soon.

Indie music is like most teenage obsessions; when you grow out of it and look back, you wonder why you ever liked it in the first place. And in truth you didn't like it, you just thought you did and were too easily influenced by media hype and peer pressure.

As the man from Decca said; groups with guitars are on the way out....
