View Full Version : I need some information regarding identity theft.
ghostbusters 18-04-2005, 17:19 does anybody know of a man going by the ( false ) name of steve ?
driving an alfa romeo and stealing peoples identity.
i know this sounds strange, but any help will be great.
No...... why have you had the unfortunate experience of meeting him????
More details on the car might jog peoples minds...colour, year, etc
I guess the question that a lot of people will ask is why do you want to find this guy and have you contacted the police?
ghostbusters 18-04-2005, 17:32 yep, contacted the police.nothing doing.
suppose im just interested to see if anyone else has had someone take on their identity.
it freaked me out a bit,but as he didnt try and get a card or buy anything etc threre was no crime committed.

So this person has stolen your identity but not committed a crime? Bit confused as to how you noticed if no one was 'chasing' you for something this person had done whilst using your ID
We had someone called Mr White rent a house and buy in loads of computer equipment and fancy clothes. We didn't hear from this guy for a while so when we went round to the house. We found he hadn't been there for ages and was using the computer to clone cards and stuff as there were lots of peoples cards about.
After going to the police we kept the hardware and clothes for a year but he had completely dissappeared. All the equipment was sold off to pay for the rent arrears.
We contacted the company that gave us his reference and that had dissapeared too. These guys know the game.
ghostbusters 18-04-2005, 19:50 i would just like to know how someone 50 miles away got hold of my details, lots of my details and then started texting and ringing people i know.
if anybody has encountered anything similar i would like to hear from them.
there doent seem to be a reason to do this.As he doesnt seem to have even tried to access my bank or anything.
all i have found out is he might be called steve and be from sheffield.
Have you lost a diary, phone or PDA?
Have you given anyone details for a 'survey'?
Joe
muddycoffee 18-04-2005, 20:27 Do you have a mobile phone which has Bluetooth. And you walk around with it still enabled?
It is entirely possible to interrogate a phone which has it's bluetooth enabled, and steal contacts and numbers and other data without the owner knowing. You can even do this from a next door building, or from a car 2 in front or behind.
My mate who is a programmer has investigated with writing bluetooth software, and it's possible to do all sorts of bad things. I always make sure my bluetooth is disabled, unless I am transferring data.

happychick 18-04-2005, 21:31 Keep your eyes an ears open for a while. This guy may be using your mobile as a way of getting more of your personal details (through phoning or texting your friends & family with excuses etc;).
My son & his buisness partner have just been done for £16.000. from their buisness account.
I can,t go into the details on here 'cause the police are involved, but watch your mail very closley & keep your eyes open for any going missing.
It would be worth getting in touch with your bank as well, see if anyone has tried to "request" any detials off them on your behalf.
I was totally gobsmacked when this happened to my son, i never thought these people could be as clever as they are. Please be carefull because these people are so very clever.
alchresearch 18-04-2005, 21:52 There was an incident reported on here a few weeks ago about a guy in an Alfa who gave false insurance details after an accident.
Probably not related, but may be worth comparing notes. People do slip up from time to time.
went to spend on my credit card and itwould not go through, had to ring bank they say there were some strange things come through on it.Just to find after new card it was still going on.It has happened again in march, that is three times.Rang them to find someone had copied my card never use hole in the wall with it so someone in a shop must have done it.KEEP A CLOSE WATCH FROM NOW ON

Does your network provider or landline company have a call centre in these parts? Could that be where he's got your details?
The alfa that alche mentioned was red (I think)
