I have heard many a story about worming cats but I didn't realise how much 'fun' it could be with dogs. Lol.

Maisey's been to the vets today for her jabs and check up (she has a full bill of health :)) and whilst there I bought some frontline and worming tablets - in the past I've used ones that look like biscuits.

So I got home and showed her the tablet, she sniffed it and walked away (no suprise), so I thought I know I'll alternate it with treats (nope, too clever for that), so I opened her mouth and put it in - she spat it out or hid it until the next treat and spat it out. In the end I put some spread on my hand and mixed it in - bingo! I've been told to stick it in a block of cheese next time :D.

lol bless Maiseys they are very clever and not daft.

I hide their tablets in meat are cheese and they just swallow it.

I always put Eddy's tablets in butter

I used to be able to throw Takara a tablet and she'd catch and swallow before she realised what it was but she's got wise to it and catches it, tastes it, then spits it out.

Tried all sorts with her when she was on antibi's and decided the best way to do it was stick it at the back of her mouth, hold her mouth shut, massage throat until it's gone and then give her a really tasty treat.

She got the hang of that and decided it wasn't so bad if she was rewarded with a treat.

The cheese always works for Ailsa but we've used butter too.
With the cats, I don't mess aabout now- I use panacur paste in a syringe and droncit spot on - have wasted too many drontal tablets on refusenik mogs

Last time I wormed Rowdy, I had two tablets- one for this time, one for next. I fed him one out of my hand no problem. I then turned my back for all of a minute and he ate the other one off the table!

So it would seem that I have the opposite problem!

My boy quickly got wise to the old cheese/treat/bread/meat ploy so I have to sit with him on the floor and just keep trying until it becomes a gooey mess and he eventually swallows it. He has gets an upset stomach with the tablets I have at the moment so last week I got him Sherleys worming cream which comes in a syringe - you just put a spot on his nose and he is supposed to lick it. Not tried it yet though

The panacur paste comes in a syringe and it's not too bad to administer - you have to get the amount right, so still have to weigh each animal and it can be a bit tricky trying to hold onto a cat and plunge the syringe into its mouth at the same time, but tons better than wasting tablets.
Ailsa is such a push over- I tell her it's her 'poorly medicine' and she goes all soppy and takes it - that bit of cheese or butter makes all the difference! (Think it has something to do with when she had Metacam the first time and it obviously made her feel better quickly, so she readily accepts anything we give her now). She's the same with ear drops and having her eyes wiped - if you tell her it's poorly medicine she'll wait obediently to have it administered.
Oh to have a cat that takes tablets...Hang on, we managed to con Beauty the bungle last month when she needed antibiotics- mixed the powder in with a tiny amount of tuna and she fell for it every time. Not so the rest of the crew

Must admit I was dreading this with Evie, particularly when I saw the size of the tablet! I thought i would try it in with her biscuits when she had her tea, and bingo first time! I couldn't believe it was that easy. However I had much more of a palaver with getting some antibiotics down her until I discovered the cheese trick!:D
