View Full Version : Mosborough By-pass lighting
Does anybody know why the Council are replacing lamp posts along the entire stretch of the Mosborough By-pass.
They can not have been there any longer than 15 years.
The ones on my street are the old cast iron grey ones which should have been replaced decades ago.Or at least had a lick of paint.
Aren't they changing them to white light instead of that nasty yellow sodium lighting? Should make life easier for the helichopter :D

Never mind the street lights, they should sort the bloody road surface out.
On the stretch going uphill from the Parkway there's a raised hump across the full width of the road that's worse than a speed bump.
On going downhill toward the Parkway the entrance to the island is a disgrace. It's like a 4x4 testing surface.
Where's that thread addressed to the council about potholes....
The road is going to be sorted out. The problems exist as the original contactors used inappropriate materials for the sub surfaces.

Any idea when?

Just as soon as the tender documents for the underworld warter solidification program have been assessed and the contract awarded :D :D
Or when hell freezes over
yorkiepudd 20-04-2005, 08:35 And I thought it was just me.... same on Birley Moor Road - OK so the street lights are much older, but they have just re-surfaced it all, new kerbs, etc when they only did it 2 years ago when they put the new crossing areas and 'painted' islands in to make it safer.
Then you go down some other roads and it is just like a dirt track.

Glad to hear that. Sooner rather than later I hope.

I assume therefore they'll be made to come back and do the job properly, and it'll be a 'warranty job', at no cost to the tax paying public??
Any plans for the rest of the Parkway from that junction out toward where the 'Rotherham' section starts (that has a lovely new surface)?
If anyone is familiar with the large crossroads just outside of Eckington, they have just been re-surfaced, about 200 yards along each approach road and the crossroads itself.
Probably the best bit of road surface in the area at the moment, BUT how long will it stay like that? My bet is that within 6 months (after first bit of 'hot' weather) we see potholes, and general degredation of the surface.

I could be really anal and tell you that that crossroads is in Derbyshire, but instead I'll just agree - it's a fantastic bit of road (for now). :)

Two years ago it had a surface coating. They have done a major job this year.
I noticed the other day that the whole road from Manor Top out to the tram lines near the Birley Golf Course has all been resurfaced - except for a small stretch from the lights at Intake to the top of the hill at Frecheville. Seems a shame to miss out this stretch.

Is that in Sheffield? Derbyshire starts at the old harrow according to the A-Z
I think you're confusing the roads. The Old Harrow is on White Lane that runs through from Ridgeway to Gleadless Town End and is just in the City boundary. Birley Moor Road runs from Mosborough through to Park Square, in various different guises.

I was thinking of the road past the golf course

The stretch where you get past the golf club (and past where the tram tracks leave left the road) is shocking. Too narrow and littered with alloy bending potholes.
I refuse to use that section of road anymore.
