OK, I dont think we have had a discussion on the lines of this one.
Sheffield could be seen as pretty dull when it comes to great architecture.
What would you say is the best piece of architecture in Sheffield.

Park Hill Flats
Hallamshire Hospital
The Arts Tower
The New Peace Gardens
The Town Hall
The City Hall
Don Valley Stadium
Meadowhall

My favourite is the City Hall and its art deco.

Whats yours.

I think the buildings either side of the Cathedral Square (Gladstone Buildings?) are worth a second look

Not having grown up in Sheff, about the only thing I know about Local History is that you're big for STEEL.
When did this kick off big style and the city grow (money and jobs and that)?
Looking round the city there's loads of Art Deco style buildings - I just think Sheff has less OLD OLD buildings than some other cities (correct me if i'm wrong - i can handle it when i'm wrong).
And, as Architecture was second of my list of careers (but MUCH MUCH harder work for me than those sums I have to do now!) I'm always to be seen gawping at buildings wherever I go, even normal houses.
So I don't have a favourite (yet) - but am having a work thing in one of the Committee rooms at the Town (or City?) hall in few weeks - so maybe once I've seen the interior - that'll be my favourite (maybe)

I'm no AJP Taylor, but I know a lot of old Sheffield was destroyed during the blitz and latterly by the cretins on the city council. I will doff my cap in the direction of the Winter Garden, the buildings around the Anglican cathedral, the beautiful Georgian Paradise Square and the Lyceum...oh and the Central Library.

City Hall
Cathedral Squre and the buildings around it (including the Cathedral)
The Blue Moon Cafe and the Sheffield Wildlife Trust HQ off City Road - that's partly personal as I was lucky enough to work for the people who refurbished them (though without doubt they're great buildings :D )
Paradise Square
The Showroom cinema and NCPM
Millennium Galleries and Winter Gardens of course :) And the Town Hall (Howden House is surprisingly good too, though not exactly in the same league...)
Bishop's House
Norton, Fulwood and Ranmoor Churches and St John's church (I think...) near the Hallamshire Hospital
Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet
There's plenty more but I've a lousy memory  I guess these are the obvious ones.

Buildings that interest me include the Bed nightclub (why did they paint it black?? I keep meaning to find pics of what it used to look like); some of the remaining factories and old factory walls near the big sorting office; the building with the triangle of chimneys you see when going down Netherthorpe Road; Kelham Island.
