Strix 09-07-2008, 05:36 AM So in Adz absence I've been down to the dog pound again today
I can't believe how nice all of the dogs there are! (and there's a couple I could easily have brought home too  )
My favourites have to be the Staffy/Beagle (of course ;) ), one of the GSDs with a sandy coat, and a Rott who reminded me sooooo much of Jade in her personality... and maybe if Akitas weren't so furry I'd be tempted by the big lad with the soft gentle demeanour... and that little crossbreed pup...
Adz - where are you?!? I'm in serious danger of winding up with a house full!! :help:
Sorry - getting carried away and nearly forgot to leave the link

estweyn 09-07-2008, 10:48 AM Youve done em proud Strix, lovely photos, just have to pray for homes for them all. The akita looks lovely, but then so do they all...so sad that they are there at all.
geckoqueen 09-07-2008, 10:59 AM My favaourites still there from last week :(
I still don't think I can turn my OH

My photo really doesn't do him justice estweyn :( He's a fantastic colour with a beautiful coat, and a temperament that just melts you
gatecrasher3 09-07-2008, 02:17 PM What a cutie http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e393/SFStrix/RainRescue%20Dogs%202/K3-2609A.jpg
estweyn 09-07-2008, 05:51 PM Are you trying to tempt me Strix---??? it wouldnt take much, but I need to be sensible, maybe when I am fully active after my op-I would like a companion for Josh but he is dog aggressive so it would take some settling them down.
Strix 09-07-2008, 08:14 PM Send them both over to Auntie Strix's Bootcamp :P
I've already settled two very dog aggressive dogs together - when they couldn't even bear to smell each others presence prior to that ;)
I wasn't trying to tempt you - honest :D
Strix 09-07-2008, 08:15 PM What a cutie http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e393/SFStrix/RainRescue%20Dogs%202/K3-2609A.jpgIsn't he just? :D
they don't usually like us to take pics with the dogs behind bars, but that one was just so.....
Strix 10-07-2008, 02:32 PM Just to let everybody know that these dogs are now on the RainRescue website at www.rainrescue.co.uk - click on 'sheffield dogs'
you should find details for how to adopt them there
Jess22 10-07-2008, 03:28 PM OOhhh K18 - 2499 is just what one of my friends is looking for. Lets hope he has found his forever home :D
Rainrescue 10-07-2008, 08:30 PM Jess
K18 - has had to go out and go into paid holding kennels - which The Doris Banham Sanctuary are paying for.
He will struggle being rehomed bless him - because he will be boarded along with loads of other staffy's all desperate for attention. I have no idea why he wasn't taken out of the pound - bless him he was in for ages.
So, if you friend is interested, please ask her to get in touch and lets see if we can get the poor boy a home.
wondertec 10-07-2008, 08:37 PM What a cutie http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e393/SFStrix/RainRescue%20Dogs%202/K3-2609A.jpg
I know! I think it's the ears that do it for me:love:
eeejay174 10-07-2008, 10:06 PM my partner has seen him and think hes fab - we are ignorant of the adoption process tho - how much is it to adopt - how long does it take for the home check?? We are moving to a much larger house in 2 weeks, and if our ruby took to him we could be in luck.... ohoh we do have a young child - 18 mths - would that restrict adoption possibilities???

When I adopted Kira the adoption fee was £68 which includes free micro chipping and a voucher towards spaying which brought the cost down to just £30 for me to pay.
You just phone make an appointment go and see the dog and that's it...there is no home check, would be best to take all of the family with you to see how he is around them and I think if at all possible they would allow your dog to meet with him first but don't quote me on that one.
Just ask lots of questions and spend as much time as possible with him sussing him out, particularly with you having such a young child.
Good luck
Rainrescue 11-07-2008, 12:13 AM eeejay174
that would be great if you could help for him
however, he is now in boarding in kennels - and so not at the actual sheffield pound
have a look on our web site for the contact for Roz at Peterborough - and see if she knows where abouts he is
or pm me your contact details and i will get a contact for you
they just want him to be a in a good home
money is always needed but not the main thing in getting them a dog out of kennels
fingers crossed for the sweet guy
lisajaynec 11-07-2008, 12:14 AM The little shihsue looks like he could do with a good bath, did you meet him stix it says that he is a little grumpy.
Strix 11-07-2008, 12:23 AM I did meet him briefly
He's absolutely no different to any other Shi tzu I've met really - they have a somewhat 'I'm in control' and 'aloof' attitude in the showring and at classes too ;)
Although he looks like he'd benefit from a good bath, his coat otherwise looks to be in good condition, so he should scrub up well

He's a lovely dog - great personality, but put him next to some of the other dogs in the pound and he's got a lot of competition for anybody's attention :(
If you take a dog from the pound and things really don't work out they are rather understanding
It isn't advisable to take your own dog into the pound. It's a very stressful environment which just isn't conducive to successful introductions

Yes....your right about taking the dog to the pound, I certainly wouldn't do that, it's not easy is it? perhaps the rescue that took him will have an idea :)

I spoke to my friend last night and he is gutted :( he has made the sensible decison that he is no longer in a position to get a dog. He is a builder and is seriously struggling for work atm so thought it best not to take on another finantial responsibility. He was just what he has been looking for as well. I hope he finds a home though, he looks lovely. :)
pinkgirl 11-07-2008, 10:24 AM Had a real shock when I saw the pic of;
K3-2609C
Who is the image of Leah and one of her pups Ozzie,
think it must be a relation to Leah

that's the same dog as K3-2609A and B - they look like different dogs don't they? same with the staffy/beagle cross
the numbers on the dogs are
Kx = kennel number
2xxx = dogs number
A/B/C = my photograph in a series for same dog
the pound will get ever so confused if anybody asks for that staffy/beagle cross by the number I've given, then complains that they've been shown the wrong dog from his other picture :hihi:

Strix, perhaps my Leah has some beadle in her somewhere then, she has
the droopy ears, as do her pups lol
Strix 11-07-2008, 06:08 PM if she's impossible to train, obsessed with sniffing, and greets you like she's welcoming you rather than demanding attention - maybe :D
oversized paws are another give away
eeejay174 11-07-2008, 06:18 PM hi ive been trying to ring so we can go and see the staffy/beagle cross but to no avail..... :-( we really want to go see him, but no-one has responded to my messages i used 2930362, left a message, spoke also to environment control - for stray dogs i think, they said they would email, we would like to see him tomorrow....
thanks em
Strix 11-07-2008, 06:24 PM I don't know if they've been short handed today eeejay, as I did see one of their staff at the microchipping event
most calls seem to go through to a voicemail as they're busy with the dogs in the kennels quite a lot!
I know calls can go to either the offices elsewhere or to the pound itself though

Just give us a shout next time you need me!
Rainrescue 13-07-2008, 12:44 AM Today we got out into foster a whippet x boy - so gentle and calm who was full of ticks and sores.
He is being fostered by a forum member
He will go to the vets on monday to see how we can help him best - poor boy and thanks to our lovely fosterer
We have one of the other old and poor ones being taken in by The Mayflower Sanctuary at Bawtry. Another great rescue that helps the dogs from Sheffield when they can.
only another 50 odd to go.
eeejay174 14-07-2008, 11:39 AM just to update the staffyxbeagle was reclaimed last night - the pound rang me to let me know!!!
Strix 14-07-2008, 11:53 PM I wonder if the owners have spotted he's got beagle in him :)
