Does anyone know why the piece of land at the top of Lydgate Lane/corner of Ryegate Cres. is fenced off? There is a laminated notice (very unofficial looking) saying 'DANGER KEEP OFF'. Its just grass and a few tree's, hardly dangerous.
There is no planning notices, just seems strange that this fencing has suddenly appeared. Just hope it's not pikey's trying to claim the land.
Would be grateful if anyone can shed any light on this matter.
Many thanks,
Jennifer.

I seem to remember years ago the land collapsed into an old cellar somewhere there, it might be a repeat.

I saw this last week and was really concerned, especially in the light of what is currently happening in Walkley.
Saxton Mee has recently fenced off an area of land which has been used as a community park for many many years saying I think that they own it because noone else does!! There is a real fight back going on but it seems to me that Saxton Mee might be eyeing up small overlooked plots and fencing off in a form of land grab. Can they do it? Is it legal? Well...., they did it in Walkley so I would love to know what is going on on Lygate Lane. Anyone know?

i have now heard that some land collapsed while someone was walking there, so it's to do with subsidence, that's why it's fenced off....apparently.

Council are now looking into this but they think it's still theirs (or ours depending on how you look at it). The company that fenced it off are Demex of rotherham I think, but they wont admit to it or let on who had them do it.
If it turns out the land is still the councils and not fenced off for safety reasons then its fair to assume that someone is trying to claim/steal it.
More on this as it unfolds.....
