It was like something out of Shameless. The bit I couldn't get my head round was the guy thought nothing of giving his kids the same name! I think they said he had four kids called Mike and two called Luke, and as I think all the kids were from three mothers, one of those women must have at least two Mikes.

Is this the bloke who lives in... Nottingham or somewhere like that?

It certainly was gripping in an excruciatingly painful way. I found it very upsetting and found myself wanting to take some of the children away to give them a better chance in life. This case alone provides a powerful argument for enforced sterilisation of such people.

I don't know what channel it was on, but my mum was watching it and I caught about half an hour of it last night.

I felt a bit sorry for the three kids all sleeping in one bed! They lived in Wales. His wife wouldn't stop sparking up, and the guy and his daughter had a song about Strongbow cider.

I saw snatches of it and the bits I saw were horrible, I thought depravity like that was long gone from society, but the sight of those lads nicking that boiler for its copper content... Depressing.

I think it was on bbc, so probably available on iplayer. Definitely compulsive viewing, if not for the right reasons!

I found it really upsetting. The poor kids. At one point they were packed into a small room where about 4 or 5 adults were chain smoking. The mum had a 2 year old (he looked about that age) & there was a 3 month old baby present. Even the dad had left the room in disgust. He even said that they were disgusting smoking in front of the baby- he waited until his kids were at least 6 or 7 months until he smoked in front of them. It would be funny if it wasn't real.

One of the most haunting sites was the toddler (he looked about 2/3) wrapping himself in a quilt cover on the landing as they had all forgotton to put him to bed????

The 18 year old daughter cooked for the family every night yet neither parent worked? What is that all about. Why have so many kids if you can't be bothered to look after them?

Aparently social service made repeated visits & did not appear to be giving any help. At one point they had no water for about a week.

To be honest I found the programme pretty heartbreaking. What chance have those kids got? On an even worse note it went off with him talking another baby in the future?

I liked the shot of him walking down the road with the baby while she pushed the pram with 3 crates of cider in it, classic:hihi: and One month in jail for fourth drink driving offence what’s that all about , I thought they were going to throw the book at him.

Or how about how to get re-homed, no need to wait just rip all the plumbing out and make a few bob on the side at the same time, the list goes on.

Some good observations here luybell...

I actually thought I misheard that. Sadly, it looks like I'm wrong.

That really was awful.

I expected some of the older kids to be mucking in.. not doing everything.
Aparently social service made repeated visits & did not appear to be giving any help. At one point they had no water for about a week.
I really hope no one picks on social services for cases like this.

It was as mentioned earlier, gripping to watch, but for all the wrong reasons. I wonder how much editting went off. Did they just show the bad side? Could there have been any good sides??

An interesting quote by Dad, which could almost have created some 'ahhhhh' factor:rolleyes:, when he said that he tried to cut down on smoking and drinking around Christmas time so the kids got what they wanted. - then a few days later sold one of the kids iPODS for beer money.

Some other clips I noticed..

"if we have another kid, so what? it's just another tatoo" :hihi: -

"so what if they all turn out to be arseholes? they're still my arseholes."

"I'll teach my kids to find money, whether it's through right or wrong"

"the two eldest boys can't wait to get in prison like their Dad"

-

Everything that man does costs the state money. Housing. Benefit. Police calling round for domestics. His crime. His kid's crimes. His prison sentence. His medication. on and on.

The kids had poor skin and looked malnurished. Though, there seemed to be plenty of Strongbow lying around.

-

Some positives though.

*I thought the eldest girl seemed very clever, and hopefully a role model for the younger girls.

*Suprisingly the eldest lad, who got into trouble, I think will do ok. His caring side showed early on, when he was cuddling his baby brother to sleep as no one else seemed to care. He didn't look comfortable doing crime(ironic :hihi:). At least he tried grafting.

*Families like this are very rare

I was touched by dad saying that he was disgusted by people who smoked whilst wife was pregnant and that he didn't smoke in front of kids until they were 3 months old. By my calculations she would probably have been pregnant again by then. He also amongst many gems in the programme lined them up and using a tirade of expletives told them that they mustn't swear. He was truely appalling and there will be plenty of other people around who are as bad or worse. It was possibly the worst programme I've ever seen about a family and hopefully they will all be taken into care so they have some chance of a future.

My partner watched this on Monday night while I was in bed, he said to me you have to see it so I found it on catch up on demand last night but only had chance to see the first half hour.
I saw the bloke singing some song about strongbow with one of his kids.
It also said that neither of them work, he can't because he's an alcoholic. But they get their rent and council tax paid for and they get £400 a week in benefits. That's over 20K a year! Wern't they 12 people sharing a 3 bedroom house?

There was a simliar programme on a while ago, something like 7 kids and wanting more? Though most of the familes on here worked for a living and just had some obsession with wanting babies.

They got £27,000 a year so there's no way he will ever work again, he'll probably be dead soon anyway.

There's no point in him working is there, what job would pay more than £400 a week. Plus he gets his rent and council tax paid for so that £400 is theirs with no rent to come out

They appeared to be living in filthy, squalid poverty.

What a mixture of emotions I felt when I watched this, everything from anger, disgust, shock, sadness and despair.

It was so upsetting to see the kids sleeping in beds without even any sheets on them and the parents constantly smoking and drinking.

The scene with them all in room smoking at same time with a baby was terrible.

At least the oldest girl seemed to be making sure they were all getting fed

Am I right in thinking that the boy called Luke didn't go to school because of a mix up with names? Why on earth would you call your kids the same names:loopy:

£2000 on christmas presents was crazy, they would have been much better spending it doing the house up a bit, making the kids more comfortable, they only ended up having to sell some of it for alcohol anyway.

Very sad indeed:(

Very sad indeed:(It was a demonstration of a kind of overt pseudo love that chavs pretend to have for each other where they think blowing lots of money at Christmas proves they love them more. They certainly looked to enjoy themselves at CHristmas didn't they?

Prog reminded me of the Every Sperm is Sacred sketch here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47P59ha9k9s) and song in Meaning of Life.

Christmas has been blown out of proportion in general, many people forget it's true meaning.
But who exactaly gave these people the loans they had? I know many people who work for a living and can't get a loan so who's daft enough to loan them money?

We live in a world where the human population is spiralling out of control, resources are stretched to breaking, and we face the resulting environmental payback. If there's one message that programme sends out to us it's the state should not be subsidising scum like this to breed like rabbits.

I have staff that work hard for 60 hours a week to take half what this scumbag is taking from the taxpayer.
