I'm looking to buy a new laptop and I'm trying to compare processor speeds, hard drive capacities etc.
Is there a list of processors in order of their power on the internet somewhere. I know duo core is better than celeron, but after that I get a bit lost.
A website which breaks it all down would be really helpful.
thanks

What do you want the laptop for? If it's just general word processing and internet browsing then no point in buying top of the range..
Decide what your budget is, decide what you want to use it for then try and get the best you can for the money. Also go into PC world so you can see what different screen sizes are like.
If you don't put a ceiling on it you can spend quite a lot ;)
so far as I understand the core2 numbering system -
anything starting E is a dual core
anything starting Q is a quad core
anything with an X in it is the extreme version - from what I've read these do not represent particularly good value for money
Following the letters, the higher the number in general the faster the processor.
It can get more complicated than that, with later generations using different and better manufacturing processes - if you really want to know, there's a great deal on the core2 wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2).
I've not looked into AMDs for a while but having seen one of the new 45nm quad core phenoms in action at the lan party this weekend I'd give them serious consideration when they come out. Any quad core that'll play COD4 happily with a standard socket A heatsink (seriously!) will stay cool, won't use much power and as such should in theory be a beast for overclocking... but now I'm getting seriously off topic.
Er, hope that helps I guess... sorry for rambling.
