My cousin's wife took in a canary that flew in through her neighbour's open window. We think that in the bad winds someone's aviary was damaged as there were other canaries spotted in the area that we obviously could not catch!:(

The little darling seemed fine and was eating - but then sat in the bottom of the cage - not like it was dying but not very happy. They took it to a chap and he said that it was female and egg bound - this is why it was like this. He suggested that they get a male canary and it would solve this problem.

Don't know if there are any canary expert forumers that can confirm this - or any advise would be greatly appreciated. If this is correct - has anyone got a male canary that is FTGH? As they want to get a bigger cage cos the emergency one that the neighbour bought is quite small.

Thanks in advance.

hi there if your canary is indeed a female i just hope she passed the egg if she hasn,t it will probably result in the canary dying but if she has then make sure she gets all her vitamins and minerals it could happen again if there is another one in there hope this :hihi:

Thanks in advance. :thumbsup:Getting a male wont solve that problem you need to start soaking its seed in cod liver oil just a small amount so the seed becomes nice and shiny apply a drop of oil you know were lol it may well pass the egg but you need to take action now as eckrob says being egg bound can kill it is possible to help or break the egg but this can be just as dangerous if you believe it is egg bound id honestly take it to a vet or a breeder that can deal with it.
