Asking for a friend she has a 13 week old puppy and she has decided to eat her poo, which is an awful habit,
Have you had this with one of your dogs?
What did you do to stop them?
Do you no the reason why they do it?
She cleans up her poo as soon as she sees it, but there is times when she is just grabbing the baby wipes she has pinched a lump :gag: and she has eaten it.
Advice would be greatly recieved.

i think its something that all pups go through as they are copying the mother as this is what mother does when they have messed, they do eventually grow out of it

I had two dogs that always did it. Both had a history of "abandonment" when i rescued them,so read into that what you like. The one thats still around still does it on occasion even though she's well fed and 11 years old.
I think it's a natural response as it still contains some nutritional value - one of mine eats horse poo, and they all eat hoo fclippings when the farrier comes.

Dried food is meant to help make the poo less appetising, my pups ate poo for a while, Feebee doesn't now but I was told that Ruby sometimes does.
All of my 3 bitches eat poo of other animals :gag: they say that a dogs nose is so good it can smell the "food" still in the poo, I have come to the point of not really worrying too much now, I try to prevent it if I can ...otherwise well cest la vie :hihi:, just be careful with worms.

Shovel it up as soon as its done. Josh started doing this when he became ill and his food was going through his system undigested, but he is in the habit now.
Some people suggest putting pineapple in the food as that makes it unattractive. I too think its to do with copying mum who will eat pups droppings as a throw back survival instinct.
Its not nice but its amazing how fast you can become with a shovel and bag!!!!!
