Mr Eastwood could easily be described as one of the last remnants of the old hollywood star system. He's been in the business almost 50 years and is undoubtadly an icon. I think the best cowboy ever on screen. A menacing hardman when he needs to be and as he gets older he has developed a lightness of touch when acting that makes it seem impossibly easy.

THe beauty of the man though is his directing work. He must cherry pick the very best scripts and brings them to the screen with a warmth, passion and ease that never fails to delight me. He never patronises an audience or assumes they aren't smart enough to follow a plot and directs films of warmth and depth that are just a delight.

For me hes one of the best, most interesting directors around.

He did one of my favourite films ever, A perfect world which is such a wonderful circular film.(just outside my top ten but every time i watch it, it goes straight back in there)

I only really got into liking films in the last couple of years, so I think the only Clint Eastwood film I've ever seen was Letters from Iwo Jima! I really do need to borrow or rent some DVDs don't I!?

You really do! You can currently buy the Spaghetti Western boxset for £10 from Zavvi. It contains two disc editions of Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and the superb The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Bargain. Unforgiven and Dirty Harry are also brilliant.

A mention has to go to 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' too. He's brilliant in that.
