I mentioned the other day that my car insurance is ready for renewal.
The cheapest by far I found was Tesco's.
After ringing round for quotes, Budget Insurance said they would match Tesco's quote.
Also for £44 we would be covered for homestart and recovery for the next 4 years by the R.A.C.
Also if our car is off the road due to accidents, we get a hire car NOT a courtesy car until ours is repaired/ wrote off.
For the next 4 years also Budget will match or beat ANY other quote we get.
This deal works out much cheaper than last year.
Well done Budget

They worked out way cheaper for me too, on both car insurance and home/contents - which was half the price I'd been paying with Halifax, which I'd never thought about changing before as I got it with my mortgage.
If anyone else signed up for insurance with their mortgage they could be paying quite a bit more than shopping around, well worth checking as the monthly small payments can seem like a better deal than they are.

Tom.
But your mortgage rate may be discounted if you take the lender's house insurance, so you need to check this out.
The benefit in lower insurance premiums may be outweighed by the increase in mortage payments.

FLETCHER SMITH INSURANCE BROKERS
I've always used them for car insurance, year after year after year, they've saved me pounds.
It's no use getting the cheapest insurance on the market, only to find that the firm has gone bust before your policy has expired. That's happened to loads of firms - but never with the firms that Fletcher Smith have used.
They are located behind the Sheffield Wednesday football ground, on Middlewood Road near to the Park Hotel, in the Old Bank Building.

Not for me. My renewal is £240 with Zurich but Budget could only do £293.
If I added the breakdown cover which Zurich already provide it went up to a staggering £353.

Competition is so close now that they will do almost anything for business.
I talked to a person (not a computer quote) and asked if he could Match / beat Tesco's and he did.
Have you tried asking or do you stick with the original quote?
You have to barter nowadays

do you have some examples of insurance companies going bust?
And does it actually make any difference as your policy is underwritten by one of the big few.
I bartered with Norwich Union last time it was up for renewal and got about £150 off (although I had to phone up a few months later and ask for the £30 rebate cheque they'd promised to send within a month).
Of course they have a bit more to play with as mine is still £650 a year.
