Are there any films you think were so much better on the big screen?
One that springs to mind for me is Cape Fear the second one... some of the panning shots were excellent seen on the big screen... also i loved watching the head over heels shot in Donny Darko and the joining screen shot from Rules of Attraction at the cinema.

Point Break was pretty damn good on the big screen and the old Disney movies were made for the big screen. There is nothing that brings home the magic of cinema than watching Snow White or something

Yeah do you remember the excitement of a Disney film coming to the cinema for one week only? How special you felt to be going? Watching Disneytime on a Bank holiday monday? We queued through two showings of Pete's dragon when i was a nipper and then were sat on the front row, I suppose going to see Girls aloud at the Arena gives kids the same buzz now. Shame though!

The majority of films are much better on the big screen, even ones which don't rely on effects and action, as you immerse yourself more in the events going on than you would sat on your sofa at home. When watching things at home other distractions can interrupt the film viewing (such as kids, knocks at the door, phone ringing, etc) and you don't generally become as absorbed with the film as you would in a theatre.
It is generally a fact that the blockbuster films with huge action sequences tend to be much better on the big screen, and lose a lot when put on a tv (Independence Day is a great example - on the large screen the atacks on the ships was jaw-dropping, on the Tv it is a load of tiny specks attacking a large special effect).
One rare occasion when I have appreciated a film a lot more on DVD than at the cinema was Batman Returns. It just didn't do anything for me when I first saw it way back in the past at my local Showcase Cinema back in Liverpool. Seeming a bit flat and not really building to an exciting finale, it was a bit of a let-down. On going back to it on DVD I loved it, and it is now considered (in my opinion) a stronger film than Batman was (which as good as Jack's Joker was, it gets tired very rapidly).

Wish i'd have seen L.O.T.R on the big screen

Sideways had some nice shots in it that looked good on big screen. The last scene in Devil's Rejects looked fabulous too :)

House of Flying Daggers was pretty spectacular on the big screen as was 2046. Any that use colour and photography in their films.

Theres so many, Star Wars, The Day after Tomorrow, The Stormriders, Titanic, all the Blade movies, all movies are good on the big screen lol
Richard III (the WW2-style version starring Ian McKellen): I booked this as a 'desert island cinema' at the Showroom for my then-boyfriend's 40th birthday, and it was brilliant - especially the bit right at the beginning where a tank is driven through a wall.

As a kid I was lucky to get to the cinema 2 or 3 times a year... but I remember both Jaws and Earthquake (with sensor-round or whatever that shakey things was called) being brilliant on the big screen. When my girls were little the one thing I missed most was going to the cinema. Didn't miss eating out much as you can always cook a nice meal at home, but getting to the big screen was the one thing I really missed. Now they're older, they love going (I trained 'em early!)... but it's not just about a big screen for me. It's about sitting in the dark, suspension of dis-belief, enjoying the time-long tradition of sitting through the ads (many of which are so much better than the ads on tv) then waiting for the film to start :)
