View Full Version : Which cinema do you generally use?
EdnaKrabappe 06-07-2008, 11:13 AM Which cinema do people usually go to as their regular one? Just so we know where meets would be best held at.
I generally go to cineworld mainly as i have an unlimited card.
But I think the Showroom have some interesting events on... however sometimes i don't get to hear about them until it's too late so perhaps they could be advertised in here?) I was interested in going to the Q&A of The complete history of my sexual failures with Chris Waitt but only got the facebook invitation at 8.30 of that night.
It's a while since I went to Vue at Meadowhall so i may be missing out there?? Same with Odeon.
lyndix 06-07-2008, 11:27 AM We only ever use cineworld at centretainmment, all the others are crap!
haddockman 06-07-2008, 11:52 AM I always use Centertainment, I think it's the best cinema I've been to and always so clean and tidy! I do like the look of the Showroom, but haven't ever been! Never liked Vue at Meadowhall though very much!!
Beakerzoid 06-07-2008, 01:32 PM I mainly use Cineworld for some reason :)
I do, occasionally, pop to Showroom if there is a film that we don't get that I really must see.

Cos he^^^ has an unlimited pass, and I only ever go to the cinema with him, I never go anywhere else either. I hate Vue too!:gag:
Never been to the Showroom? Tut tut dear;)
Hippiechick3 06-07-2008, 07:40 PM Has to be the Showroom for me - it seems to have got some class unlike the other chain cinemas. They feel like McDonalds to me!
honeyb35 06-07-2008, 09:51 PM meadowhell - purely for parking reasons
Bexstars 07-07-2008, 10:05 AM we always go to cineworld at centertainment, not as often as id like to these days though
weenireeni 07-07-2008, 10:29 AM never been to the showroom so can't comment there.
i like cinewrold as its modern and has a nice bar etc. odeon is a bit dingy. i actually like the seats at vue as they recline and are comfier!
however i only really go to the cinema to go to the free screenings, so can't afford to be fussy! :hihi:
wondertec 08-07-2008, 11:47 PM Meadowhall cinema is really nice, they've totally redone it since it got flooded.
Helly 09-07-2008, 11:40 PM Cineworld because I have an unlimited card and like how the seats arent the fold up ones.
Grissom 10-07-2008, 01:47 AM Cineworld as I have an Unlimited card :)

I like that too! I've been using Cineworld for about 18months now regularly and I went to a cinema near my parents a while back. I was shocked at how little room there was compared to cineworld!! My knees were jammed into the seats in front!!
guido 15-07-2008, 11:38 PM Cineworld is the best for convenience with free parking!
locket 16-07-2008, 10:50 PM the one in my cellar
SarahD 18-07-2008, 12:34 PM The Showroom or Odeon at the moment because they are closer. I miss the huge screen of Cineworld but I've not gone to see a 'blockbuster' for ages now, I prefer low budget arty stuff these days. Although I am sad I've not been to see Indiana Jones :( the boyfriend refused to come with me.
The Showroom have some excellent rare films on which I ALWAYS forget to go and see!
Until yesterday, I've been using Cineworld.
But then I had a disagreement with Cineworld yesterday afternoon, as for several months now, I have been attending their Cinema, and getting in at a concession rate on production of my disabled bus pass.
I showed the pass yesterday to see Mamma Mia, 3 PM showing, and they tried to charge me full £6.70 fee! I told them to forget it.
Next thing I phoned the Manager up on the mobile and queried this decision to charge me full price, and according to them, I've been wrongly admitted at concession price all these months, take that up with them I said, but the Manageress copped out and said they couldn't comment on actions taken previously by their staff.
I told her Cineworld could kiss my arse and I'll be taking my patronage to the Odeon in Town in future as they're cheaper even without disabled concessions.
Beakerzoid 18-07-2008, 04:34 PM take that up with them I said,
Which is exactly what has been done, and all staff will be informed of the correct policy to ensure consistency across the board. Just because someone has mistakenly charged incorrectly in the past does not mean that we must do that forever. The disability policy is that you are entitled to bring a carer along for free on proof of legibility.
If you would hear the number of times that customers try to claim "Well, I got this last time!" whenever they are refused something you would understand fully the stance of, "Well, sorry...but that was wrong." If you try to say "Oh well, we will do it this one last time but from then on you pay full price!" then what happens is next time they say, "Well, the manager allowed me last time!" and so on and so forth.

Rich, to be fair, think yourself lucky they are not asking for backpayment from you.:o:D
If thems the rules, well you've got away with it for so long so be thankful.
I can understand you are annoyed at the time as you want to see the film there and then and if you've only taken so much money, it's frustrating but i agree it's not the managers' place to comment on previous actions.
You are free to go wherever you like. Personally i'd get an unlimited card and then you can go as often as you want... i think unless you are a real infrequent cinema goer, they are a must!

I must admit I'm tempted to get one, there's several films on at the moment I want to see, Wall-E, Mamma Mia, the new Batman's out next week, and that new Mike Myers one soon, and of course Star Wars Clone Wars next month.
I just can't justify an extra £12 a month on top of every other monthly thing I fork out like Sky (which has just gone up again), mobile phone contract etc.
Beakerzoid 19-07-2008, 03:18 AM I just can't justify an extra £12 a month on top of every other monthly thing I fork out like Sky (which has just gone up again), mobile phone contract etc.
But how many films do you see on average per month over the year? If it is more than 2 then you can justify it as you will save money....and if you have a CEA card (application forms available at cinema) you can still get an extra person in free with you. £12 per month for two people to go the cinema as much as they like.....you won't have to choose between 1 film or another from that point on, you could watch anything you like.
Go on...you know it makes sense...
(sorry...just got in from work and am still on a buzz! :) )
The other thing that puts me off, is that I hear you have to pay for a year's subscription up front.
And I know for a fact I won't attend the cinema enough times in a year to warrant 12 times £12 a month, I only really go during the summer blockbuster season, for example stuff's out and coming soon that I want to see, like Wall-E, Mamma Mia, Batman Dark Knight, the new Mike Myers one, and of course Star Wars Clone Wars.
If I don't have to pay for a year up front, I'll give getting one further consideration, but if I do, they can sod right off.
Grissom 19-07-2008, 09:50 PM The other thing that puts me off, is that I hear you have to pay for a year's subscription up front.
No you don't - you can pay monthly :)
It's good going outside the summer season - you can expand your horizons and may find some other films you wouldnt have thought you'd like but actually find you love
Beakerzoid 19-07-2008, 09:54 PM No you don't - you can pay monthly :)
Indeed...you pay the first month when you sign up, then the rest goes out via direct debit each month. Minimum contract of 12 months, after which you can cancel if you wish, or just keep on using it - the payments will go out regularly until you cancel.
You can even sign up online now at the cineworld website (www.cineworld.co.uk).
funkyukgal 20-07-2008, 12:59 AM I go to Cineworld as Ive got the Unlimited Card but I wouldnt mind going to Vue just to see what difference there are from before.
Alastair 20-07-2008, 01:16 AM I use Cineworld, but only ever in the afternoons when it's quiet to avoid the one thing that can ruin a cinema experience - other people.

The Showroom mainly or Odeon for stuff they don't show.
They have a mailing list which send out emails in advance of events but these are often in the monthy brochures.
shells2909 26-07-2008, 11:12 PM We always go to cineworld as we have the unlimited cards too
ridish 30-07-2008, 02:22 PM cineworld. have seen 41 films this year. cineworld card is the best thing i own.
Fivetide 31-07-2008, 01:15 PM Showroom. I don't go very often anyway. It's a nice little place and has some great films on. Plus earwigging the conversations in the cafe can be an entertainment in itself - anyone seen Nathan Barley? Some of the pretentious 'Blahblahblah' I've heard has been priceless.
Oh, and it's only 5 minutes away if I walk quick.
I usually go to the Showroom (because I like weird and foreign films), and next most often is the Odeon because it's so easy to get to.
I like Cineworld for the size of the seats and the screens, but it's extortionately priced (I wouldn't go often enough for an unlimited pass) and it's a bit more of a pain for me to get to.
Hippiechick3 03-08-2008, 09:48 PM Has to be the Showroom for me - it seems to have got some class unlike the other chain cinemas. They feel like McDonalds to me!
After my earlier comments i have to add that I visited Vue at Valley Centretainment last week to see the Dark Night.
The film broke down half way through and immediately someone came to tell us what was happening. The nice lady dealt with the situation brilliantly and gave us a free ticket for the 20 mins or so we had to wait for the film to be fixed. So may be I need to revise my ideas on the chain cinemas.
perplexed 07-08-2008, 01:39 AM The Showroom. Offbeat quirky films rather than the general churned out rubbish, and a complete abscence of kids. Probably for the same reason!
Beakerzoid 07-08-2008, 02:21 AM After my earlier comments i have to add that I visited Vue at Valley Centretainment last week to see the Dark Night.
Do you mean Vue at Meadowhell, or Cineworld at Valley Centertainment (I'm thinking Cine as we did have a failure on Dark Knight show last week)
steelcityuk 10-08-2008, 11:16 AM We use Cineworld as we both own Unlimited cards and have done for the last few years. The current parking situation is making things difficult though. Ah the joys of Sheffield....
jezzyjj 11-08-2008, 07:06 PM My girlfriend and I used to go to UGC an awful lot as with unlimiteds cards and a great selection of films it was hard to beat. It then became Cineworld and sadly the variety of films shown gradually became a lot more limited. Allied to having to complain about projection problems, usually focusing and gate issues [that do not even get corrected most of the time ] for over 50% of films seen and this kind of soured cinema going for us and we hardly go anymore.
It didn't help that one of the main staff is often incredibly rude and generally quite dismissive of customers, not to mention on occasion lying about what had being done or not done in this case. I don't think the Girlfriend will be renewing her card and I'm wondering about cancelling too.
Normally I see most films that come out, partially as I love cinema and also as I also work on films too, it's tax deductible research, but this last year the cinema going experience has been so awful, I've probably missed more films than in the previous twenty years combined.
