The Arctic Monkeys have morphed into the Last Shadow Puppets, haven't they? :)

Saw Alex Turner on the Woss show, he looked like a cross between 70s TV lawyer Tony Petrocelli and a 12 inch long piece of snot.

Didn't his wife end up marrying one of the Ewings?

They probably paid someone to finish his house for him :P

Today I had a revelation, bear with me while I draw you a comparison and allow you to cogitate.....

A gang of young lads from Sheffield, of working class/middle class background, start off playing local gigs, quickly develop a fanatical following and go on to a meteoric rise to fame, world reknown.......

Arctic monkeys, I hear you say......

well, yes.....

but the band I'm on about.....

DEF LEPPARD!

oh yes, the parallels are there, we can now sit back and wait for the bloated power ballads, the dodgy haircuts, tax exile status in Ireland, and comeback tours after airbrushing and plastic surgery....

Arctic Monkeys, the Def Leppard for the Noughties!

:hihi:

Are you having a LAUGH?

why's that....def leppard have sold over 65million albums and been touring/releasing albums succesfullly since the early 80's (and broke america)....in 10 years time maybe we can start to compare....the test of time is a wonderful thing.

it's different genres anyway..doubt many people love both bands.

As it goes, I'm not a big fan of either band, and maybe 20 years ago you might have been able to claim def leppard were a credible band, but let's have a walk down real street, after the albums pyromania and hysteria, they became a lumpen parody of themselves, bloated, flabby AOR with none of the fire and passion that their initial 'bludgeon riffola' had going for it. it was only a matter of time before they did the 'covers' album, the 'britpop' album, and the 'trying so hard to pretend we're still in our 20's and not our 50's' album.

The point I was trying to make, albeit tongue in cheek, was a fairly serious one, the arctic monkeys have the potential to go on to great things ( although I think with the last shadow puppets, the writing is on the wall, and like the longpigs before them, when real fame comes calling, alex will drop the 'dead wood' like a ton of bricks), they also have the very real potential of going down EXACTLY the same route as duff leotard.

talk about album sales all you want, it is no guarantee of quality, simply mass marketing in a country like the US, where the mass radio network still believes it is 1984. Michael jackson has sold millions of albums, Mr Blobby sold a hell of a lot of singles....and dont get me started on dire straits.

whew! havent had a good old rant like THAT for a while :hihi:

Ciao!

Matt Helders and Andy Nicholson has joined with Jon McClure from Reverand and Drew McConnell from Babyshambles.....the single sounded very good, I think they are called Mongrel...http://www.myspace.com/wearemongrel. Playing Sheffield in October. Looks like they might be backed up by some decent politics...

I never thought babyshambles was a real band, it was just made-up by the media.

Just had a listen on MySpace - sounding GOOD. Reminds me a lot of The Clash at the time of "Sandinista"

I could seriously get into this

Their political stance looks cool too

Nice one guys
