Sheffield Council have long stated that the city does not have big enough retail units to attract quality retails to the city.
One large(ish) unit has become available the former Fox's musical store next to Argos.
I could not believe that the latest big name attraction to Sheffield's shopping scene is the 99p Store....I give up!

Going past on my way to work on the opening day, I could not believe my eyes when I saw a row of people camped out in sleeping bags! Judging by their sogginess, some had clearly been there all night.

Apparently the first 9 people into the store could purchase a DVD player for 99p.

I doubt you would be able to attract a big name retailer to that area, - it's the 'dead end' of town really. Just take stock of what there is to pull the affluent shopper down there....TJ Hughes, Primark, Argos, B&C CoOp, SY Police HQ and the Law Courts over in No Man's Land.

Do you lot only think about shops and bars? What normal person judges a place by these standards. Pi.. off to Leeds or Manchester or better yet lovely London if you dont like Sheffield.

Stop being such bloody snobs will you,its another store for those who want to get a bargain.
Plus it also provides some jobs so give it a break.
If you want posh then sod off down to London.

I do, and thats the problem, so do lots of other people who could be spending their money in Sheffield. If you get the train back from London on Saturday night is full of people who have been to London shopping, so it the train from Leeds and Manchester.

We need better (yes, more expensive but also more unique) shops in town to keep locals here spending and even (god forbid) attract people from outside of Sheffield into the city.

The only reason to go into town at the moment is to buy a mobile phone of 100 pegs for £1.

oh common I went in £1 land just a few days ago... i find them very usefull and use it quite a bit. but how many do we need?
1 x meadowhall
2 x moor
1 x 99p store
+ more i dont know about?

and like nick2 said... we already do go to London but wouldnt it be better if the money was coming into sheff?

That would be a great bit of electioneering if you were standing Roy:D

seriously, I have no problem with cheap stores (every city has them). Its the fact we don't have quality ones as well.

Since I started school people have always gone to Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham shopping. Even Barnsley has posher shops than us;)
