Olliekitten 05-07-2008, 06:01 PM My worst so far has been 'Be Kind, Rewind'. I was really disappointed as I normally love Jack Black films but I just found this one really flat.
I'd like to say that Indiana Jones has been my favourite film but still not managed to go to see it :( (8 week old baby)
So what has been your favourite and worst films so far this year?
Geoff 05-07-2008, 06:05 PM Are we sure this hasn't be done already in the Entertainment Chat area? I'm slightly concerned about duplication of topics that this new group might create. We'll have to play it by ear I guess.

Best film.....hmmm...difficult one. It'd have to be one of...The Orphanage, Cloverfield, Sweeney Todd, Persepolis or Wanted.....for comedy alone, I'll go for In Bruges though :D
Worst one I've seen....probably The Happening, I fell asleep and really did not care!!

I think there's going to be a lot of duplication to begin with......not sure what's best in here and what's best in the entertainment section.....
Geoff 05-07-2008, 06:10 PM I think it's important, as group leaders, that you establish a 'need' for this additional area - it was a group that I was slightly confused about, but hopefully you'll find a niche. I certainly think more specialist threads would work better in this area.
Should all film discussion happen in here now?
Geoff 05-07-2008, 06:25 PM Please read above! ...
EdnaKrabappe 05-07-2008, 09:56 PM Best film of the year: The Bucket List - Rob Reiner done good.
Worst film of the year: Fools Gold - could have been good, was awful apart from Matt Mc.
Beakerzoid 06-07-2008, 04:46 AM The best film of the year for me, so far, is There Will Be Blood! What a stunningly brilliant character driven tale!
Worst - Meet The Spartans! Utter tripe! Almost every other film this year has seemed alright after watching that garbage (yes, I watched it all - I like to punish myself with a crap film early each year so I can appreciate the average a lot more)
In addition, biggest disappointment was Indy 4.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
dynamick 13-07-2008, 12:23 AM I'd probably go with "The Bucket List" for the best film (Nicholson and Freeman were awesome) and its just a lovely warming film.
I'd say the biggest load of tripe I've seen is "The Mist" - I think Stephen King was smoking something rather iffy when he penned that particular one - what an absolute waste of time and effort. I am a huge Stephen King fan but that has to be one of the most awful sci-fi/what the hell films I've ever seen.
Mind you saying that....I'm reliably informed that "The Love Guru" is so bad.....people are walking out...so I'll wait for other people to say how bad it is and save my £6.50 ;)

well said that man;
best film - persepolis was brilliant, orphanage a close second
worst film - the happening was a bit pile of steaming turd 'oooh the trees!!oooh the wind'! I've gone and done a whoopsy in my shorts!

I thought The Orphanage was fantastic, it was scary, but good old fashioned scary, jumpy, but without gore and special effects!! Definately enjoyed Persepolis too, found it very interesting too!! As for the Happening, I fell asleep after about an hour and just didn't care!! Shame, as Shyamalan has shown he can do much better than that, just hope his next film is much much better!

I recently watched Cloverfield and I was pretty impressed, I felt like a few of characters were a bit poor like the guy with the camera and the guys brother who dies on the bridge. They had that really cheesy American sturfer type for me for some reason. I think they should have gone for a fully DV look aswell, like 28 Days Later. Overall i thought film was good though. I found it more a experience than a film though.
Best film I've seen this year. Which Im really not sure why I havent seen it before but was Blade Runner. I just couldnt turn it off.
Really not sure what worst film is, I think it might have to be Superman Returns. I couldnt get into it at all. The plot just seemed so pathetic and it was really over hyped. Although it might be a film that needs a few sittings.
Hecate 08-08-2008, 05:52 PM I've seen surprisingly few new films this year, and equally surprising is that the best and worst should be films I've seen in the last week:
Worst - The X Files: I Want to Believe.
I was really looking forward to this film and really wanted to like it, but it turned out to be a substandard TV episode at best. Not dreadful, just deeply disappointing.
Best - Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
Visually stunning, funny, engrossing and exciting. Shame David Hyde Pierce was busy though.
Best - The Dark Night
Awesome film, possibly one of the best I've ever seen, let alone so far this year.
Worst - Indy
More of a homage to Indy films than an Indy film itself. Using the hat pickup 50 times completely ruined the film for me and the CGI tarzan scene was beyond stupid.
