hey, i want to hear from people about the indie/alternative scene in sheffield, im from newcastle and am studying at hallam uni, and so far have been disappointed! Leadmill on a sat is c'est pas mal, Fuzz on a thurs is good...anywhere else? Brighton Beach aint that good either, compared to Newcastle.. Any good pubs/bars? And any good shops apart from funky Freshmans?? Any comments would be appreciated!! Any way to meet some new people in the same boat, i havent really found any friends who have the same interests as me..

Shame you didn't like BBeach. Depends how alternative you like it, but Corporation is pretty alternative.

For non guitar stuff I'm sure you'll find plenty to do on the events forum.

Plenty of us peeps in sheffield into that sorta stuff.

Theres also the monthly night down at Roundhouse called Antiks ,dont know when the next one is im affriad.

Leadmill mondays in the 2nd room play indie which is good , obiously you know about the sat nights there.

It is a shame you dont like BB ,personally i love it. Is it the atmosphere that isnt up to much ? Cos its the same Djs so they play the same music maybe if you give it a go just to see if you take ot it.

Fuzz clus has some decent smaller bands , The room has some decent ssmall bands also www.pandemoniumpromotions.com
Grapes on trippet lane has live music 6-7 nights a week.
Corp on a friday the upstair room plays some wicked tunes alot of it is new stuff which makes a change.
Washington has some different dj nights im sure which is down from devonshire green

Thats all i can think of ,off the top of my head hope it helps

Oh wow! This sounds absolutely fantastic - I've got so out of touch (with indie events in Sheffield). This would be well worth making an effort for. Yay!

The Earl and The Cricketers put gigs on.
Get hold of a copy of sandman. It has a great listing section.
Check out www.l2sb.co.uk and www.soundaloud.com They are both sheffield music websites. The forums are pretty busy.

BB has lost a lot of it’s magic since it moved but on the plus side you can now get to the bar and I can afford more then one drink so that is a bonus, still the percentage of asseholes spilling over from other uni nights has changed the atmosphere for the worse i think.

But Fuzz Club barbecue looks like it will be ace again, featuring the red Stripes, Jamaica finest White stripes reggae tribute act.

Offbeat in sheffield have also been running an annual Smiths/Morrissey night (run by the same people who do Size of A Cow). The next one is coming up, actually, on 13 May. Their playlist is a bit broader than the Manchester night because they play about 15 Smiths/Moz tracks and loads of other stuff from the era like Wedding present and Pixies etc. Details are at www.offbeatsheffield.com

Size of A Cow is this Friday at Fusion at Sheffield Uni. Tickets are from the Uni Box Office on the night or in advance and you don't need to be a student to get in. I think Brighton Beach is also at the same venue, temporarily, while they do up the City Hall

Yes but its nearly the same as every other week. At manchester you get moz all night none stop till 3 in the morning

Komal - couldn't reply to your PM 'cos your box is full. Think your question's already been answered though.

Buy a ticket today from the box office (just inside the main entrance of Sheff Union) and it will be cheaper. The Fusion's the same room as they play the 'Bleach' music when Fuzz Club is on, if that helps.

So, did anyone else go to this on Friday night? I went with a friend and the music was indeed fab - walked in to In Between Days by the Cure and was v.excited, wooo hooooo!!

But oh - how old I felt. . .

Stupidly I assumed that the night would be full of witty, intelligent and charming people of a similar sprightly age (early thirties...) and utterly forgot that we were at the university . . . and that there would be people there because to them the music was retro. . . it was full of twenty year olds!!! I felt like someone's Mum!!

It put me off a bit, to be honest. But maybe there were other forumites dancing about and thinking the same? What did anyone else make of it?

Offbeat is in the Raynor Lounge (stupidly renamed 'The Cupboard'), through a door in the corner of Bar One. I think the next one is a Fall special, then the Smiths, then a normal one to finish with.

Of course there were a load of people around 20, it being in a university :P I'm starting to feel a bit old when I'm only four years older than some of the students, but when I'm dancing with a mate I don't care about other people's ages (as long as they don't bump into me). The average age at Offbeat is higher - I know a few 'old' people who go there.
At least there weren't underage kids, like if you went somewhere in town during the week...

Anyways, many thanks to Chris and Gill for playing just about everything I hoped for and finishing with my fave ever 'clubbing' song (Blur - Popscene) :D

I hate you all. I can hardly get out the door because of these bloody crutches.

Yeah, could do with somewhere doing indie which isn't full of 20 year olds, but would there be enough of us?!

yeah size of a cow is ok but its a bit of a let down. they only open one room (the smallest) which makes it so hot and chlostrophobic. it was a bit crap
