View Full Version : Are SWFC a laughing stock ?

Surely even the most ardent SWFC supporters must be more than a little embarrassed by the supposed takeover and how it looks to the rest of football.

Did the prospective buyers of other clubs, Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool have to deal with a supporters group of rank amateurs set up in a porta cabin. ?

I think not. :hihi:

Why should we be embarrassed about a takeover that's going to put £M's into Wednesday. You're obviously getting worried.

Probably, but they are 'considerably richer than yow' :D

Plus I think their fans have a lot more to be happy about than the piglets in S6. Champions League football has a tendency to do that.

And you are seriously deluded if you think that.

Tell me if in some alternate world Ambramovich's takeover at Chelsea was being held up by a set of saddos in a porta cabin do you think that would have stopped him.

Could you please show us the link which highlights the proof of the takeover sinking millions in to wednesday.
Not been on the forum that often in recent times so i may have missed something but from an initial scan cant see what you are talking about.

This clip captures the reaction when the subject of Wednesdayite and playing Europe were brought up.

Its ok, if I was a blade i'd be brickin it too. Literally, i'd probably wake up in the morning, soil myself and think, "Oh God. I'm a blade' :(

I'm just looking forward to the oh so sweet buzz returning in full force to Hillsborough. To having money to splash on class players such as Frank Lampard, Totti & Horsefield. Bring it on - that's what I say.

Who have you loaned/signed so far?
Would you have signed these players if you has millions to spend soon? no.
If there was millions to spend then Laws wouldn't have signed these players then would he.

It was business as usual till the takeover, as there's no guarantee (and there still isn't) that it will happen.

These are some of the worst times for the owls....
Yet come August we kick off in the same division and we took 4 points from you last season?
Speaks volumes about how the 2 clubs rate success really!

We had a terrible season last year thanks to Mr Robson, i wouldn't hardly call them 'great times'.

The PL was a great time and hopefully we'll be back there in the not too distant future.

As i said before, it's how you rate success. No doubt being in the Premiership was great but if you call a relegation season 'Great Times' then it says a lot about the aspirations of what you hope to achieve.

In all fairness Billy i'm no Wednesday fan (i don't have illusions of grandeur), i know with how football is going these days the best we can probably hope for is a sustained stay in the PL and maybe winning a Cup.

As for Wednesdays 'MASSIVE' tag, one trophy in 72yrs compared to our none doesn't sound too great does it :hihi: - considering a number of you rate yourselves as one of the countries top teams.

And, I'm no United fan either...but, i'm quite an honest Wednesday fan and i have no doubts that we are pretty sh**e at the moment and have been for a good number of years. I have never considered Wednesday to be massive because they never have been and are never likely to be unless they are taken over by a billionaire! The difference between Wednesday and United is that we have been to Wembley and won a trophy and beat Manchester United in doing so. That feeling when your team captain raises that cup aloft is magical and like i said, i'm no United fan but if you could see/feel that moment even once in your lifetime then you would understand what it means. We have spent many more seasons in the top league than United but it amounts to very little. I did enjoy the trips into Europe (Went to both Spora and Kaiserslauten!) apart from those robbing German.....gentlefolk!
So with all things considered Wednesday have been more successful but like you say, have won very little! :(

Just remind us who you have signed again?
Q how many seaosn ticket holders do you have and how much money do you have for any potential signings?
A not many and no money
Therefore we conclude Yorkshire's laughing stock.

Are we all on here saying how rich, how superior, how wonderful, how world famous we are? NO!

As it's been said many times before, we know how poor we are, we know we haven't got the best team in the world, and we know our place in the whole scheme of things, as regards BIG clubs like Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal etc.
We are waiting for some sort of cash injection from somewhere, sometime, and if and when that day arrives, we will begin to revert to our rightful place as the regions biggest, most successful football club. Like I said, your SHORT reign is coming to an end. Enjoy it!

I understand that Mr McCabe is a very wealthy man.
Sheffield United on the other hand, are about as rich as Sheffield Wednesday (at the moment).
Now put down your silver spoons, and use stainless steel like 99.9% of all football clubs in this country.;)

Extract from Sheffield United's interim accounts.

As at 31 December 2007 net debt, excluding our share of independent joint
venture borrowings has increased to £28.3 million (2006: £22.9 million). Bank
debt associated with the football division alone amounts to some £8 million
whilst the residue Bank debt relates to specific business transactions,
including health clubs, hotel and property projects.

Now John i don't want the voices in your head getting the better of you but having looked at our official Accounts and Financial Reports (available on www.sufc.co.uk) our reports pretty much read identically however as of 31 Dec 2007 the official report has us down as the following;

borrowings has increased to £20.3 million (2006: £14.9 million).

I think the difference is we've 'borrowed' from Mr McCabe, £10m of which has now been converted into shares.

Our accounts also included borrowing for the purchasing of land and the building of a new hotel, so not exactly dead money.

Now i know £8m isn't much between friends but the Wednesday issue of lying has to stop, it doesn't matter how many people you tell or how many times you repeat it, it doesn't make it true.

So Sheffield United must have lied to the London Stock Exchange because that's the site I quoted from.

Why do you mention all the irrelevant stuff about what your borrowings have been used on? I merely responded to your sarcastic comment "are we £27m in debt" pointing out that yes, that's roughly what you owe.

We keep hearing about the magnificent financial management at Sheffield United when all they do is borrow money with McCabe as a guarantor.

First of all, I haven't mentioned Sheffield Wednesday in this thread but I do not deny their dire predicament without a cash injection.

However, as soon as anyone mentions United's debt you all get very defensive and make a comparison with Wednesday even though no Wednesdayite I've seen on this forum has tried to claim the two are similar.

And yes, I do understand how to read a balance sheet. United's shows £20.3 million or £28.3 million of debt depending on which website you read (SUFC or London Stock Exchange).

Any fool can borrow money and convert it to assets provided they have someone rich enough to guarantee the loans. Why claim United have done something remarkable?

I don't think you understand pal.

The figures, as you say, do balance but it is the figures themselves that are crucial.

If in the 'red' they will be shown thus: (£20,000,000), the brackets noting a minus figure or 'Red' if you will or in Wednesdays case 'Up shlt creek'

If in the 'black' they will be noted without the brackets thus £20,000,000 noting a plus figure or 'Black' if you will.

A balance sheet takes into account all the assets and liabilities be they loans, overdrafts and your case a crumbling ground.

This has been done a few weeks ago dolls head but I shall find them and repeat. Just be a tick. :P

Knew i'd seen it somewhere on here;

Looking at the 2007 Accounts, and in particular the Balance Sheets, for both SUFC and SWFC. United have Net Assets of £34.5 million. Wednesday on the other hand are showing Net Liabilities of £7.6 million. So United have assets against which they can raise finance and SWFC haven't got a pot to urinate in and why the word 'Administration' is relevant.

Numb nuts was arguing about it back then too and lost.

Whens your Russian Sugar Daddy due in from Moscow, he's not getting cold feet is he?

As we've increase turnover by 47% year on year i'm getting the feeling Mr McCabe and the family must be doing something right.

We also have a strategic plan in place which involves us paying our current loans off pretty much interest free over a 3yr period, how long many years will it take you lot to pay your debt off (infact are you paying any of it off?).

You've got to take into consideration when entering the PL you don't get a lump sum of cash up front, so if you need money to buy players, e.g. like we did with Hulse, Leigerwood, and Davies plus money to pay increased wages, you have no option but to take out a loan and wait until the money is recieved from the PL to pay off the outstanding loans.

We've got another year of parachute payments and i feel we have one of the best squads in the league (yes despite making no eye catching signings at the moment), i have every faith in Kevin Blackwell (look at his record from February onwards) and we are the best supported team in the Championship. I have no doubt this season we will be there or there abouts.

Alex, I'm not slagging United (or their fans) off.
I'm suggesting that United haven't got very much, KM has.
We either have a buyer, or we don't. What will be, will be.
Bassett and other managers at United had what some people call sucess on a shoestring budget, so if that's what Wednesday have to do, then that's what we'll do.
United must be careful in case KM gets tired of running things.
It could drop you in a load of doo doo.
It's happened at other clubs.
DA got fed up at Hillsborough for instance.

DA was huonded out of hillborough , your point is correct but that applies to everyone , if abromavich walked away from chelsea they would go into instant meltdown ,the wage bill alone would bankrupt them .
unfortunately this is how football is run and it wont change .
united have tried to do it on a steady foundation to build on .
I believe british football would go skint if sky pulled out . they did it in italy a few years ago and nearly all their clubs went bust .sampdoria dropped down the leagues and took years to recover . sky hold the key and can do as they wish .even demanding kick offs at certain times ,against the polices wishes , they get what they want .If they go so do the big money investors who need the high profile advertisng and the media coverage .

Further to your point as well Alex.

I'm not sure that I really do want some billionaire at Hillsborough. I was one of the first to slag Blackburn off for 'buying' the PL title. At that time, Newcastle almost bought the PL title, and of course now, Chelsea are the main ones trying to regain the PL title. Credit Arsenal with not being money crazy and still being consistently one of the 'big four'.
Chelsea will sink like a stone when Abromavich leaves. Chelsea are not really one of the big four. They're temporarily making the numbers up at the moment. Ken bates paid I think 1p for the club some time back. That's the state they were in.
I would welcome some money in to Hillsborough, purely to get rid of our present debt situation and like someone said earlier, be in a position to compete on a more level playing field.
Yeah it'd be great for Slobadan Igotemrich to come in, buy 500 of the world's finest players, win the PL, win the Champions league, win the FA cup, League Cup, build the first football stadium on the moon, pay the first £1m a week to a player and all that garbage, but deep down, we'd know, and Blades would certainly let us know .... it's all false really. Like boob surgery.

Neither do you.
It's Mr McCabes.:)

Like Chelski after Abramovich, when Mr McCabe moves on, you'll sink like a stone.

Blackburn, Newcastle, when 'properly' successful, all had a 'sugar daddy' in the past.
Now they are just 'football clubs'.

ok - clearly wrong.

McCabe has built the club up over the last 8 years or so, so we're not reliant on one persons money.

He has;
1.Built up facilities around the ground that generate cash
2.Built a property section of SUFC that generates cash
3.Invested in clubs abroad as a long term plan - give it 5 years and that will start bearing fruit.

In short, the man is a very clever business man who is a blade through and through. He has £850m in the bank and still has interests in other businesses. Because he has this sort of cash and is a blade, we know he isn't just some investor out to take the club for all it's worth. He's made SUFC self sufficient. We aren't reliant on making money through football. I'd say we must be one of the healthiest clubs in England.

Now look at Wednesday. They are totally reliant on an investor coming in and bankrolling the club. Now unless they have a die hard Wednesday fan who can either do the same as McCabe has done, or bankroll the club, then it's not going to happen. An business man who isn't a wednesday fan isn't going to buy the club, clear the dept, and give you £20m to spend just for the fun of it. They want a return on their cash. And SWFC looks pretty un-viable at the moment.

Then throw in Wednesdayite, and I can't see anyone putting up with that bunch of jokers.

My prediction - Wednesdayite will not sell their shares FULL STOP. They like having the shares and the power it gives them. They won't want to give that up.

Earwiggo

So Blade 1983,
You now have some sort of business called SUFC Construction, or SUFC Properties?
Is that what you're saying?
Or is it KM Enterprises or Km Development Group PLC?
I think KM may let the club have a fair wad of cash, but like you say, he's a great businessman and I don't think he'd be daft enough to let the club have, what his kids may need.

No - McCabe has his businesses, and United have theirs. Scarborough United I believe it's called. It's a collaboration of one of McCabe's businesses and Sheff U.

Look into it if you're interested.

And I think his kids will live ok on £850m.

it's in his back pocket. he sold 60% of a company and got £850m, cash.
