the british grand prix is moving away from Silverstone to donnington

The British Grand Prix will move from Silverstone to Donington Park from 2010 as part of a new 10-year deal.
Silverstone, which had been home to the race since 1987, is owned by the British Racing Drivers' Club, who had been in talks to secure a new deal.
"We wanted a world class venue for F1, something teams and fans could be proud of," said F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
"Donington's development plans will give us exactly that, a venue to put British motorsport back on the map."

So, Donington Park is all ready for an F1 race except for needing:

significant track lengthening
a complete overhaul of the pits (probably rebuilding) and other facilities
a massive upgrade to the appalling access roads


And all for just £100 million. No way they'll get it into a fit state by 2010, and they'll never get their investment back, let alone make profit. Don't get me wrong - I like Donington, but I just can't see it happening.

Maybe it's just been announced to scare Silverstone into action. Is Ecclestone paying Donington's owners to go along with the charade for a little while...?

I agree that Donington is completely inadequate though, apparantly one of the reasons for moving from Silverstone (given by Bernie Ecclestone) was that it was a nightmare to get in and out of Silverstone (clearly he hasn't been to Donington......)

The track itself is simply not right for F1, great track but no good for F1. I'm just gutted though that MotoGP will now more than likely be moving to Silverstone :(

Lets hope it will be cheaper to see F1 when it moves.:confused:
