View Full Version : Advice from the blokes please: Sweeping HIM off his feet?
Kthebean 16-04-2005, 14:09 If your girlfriend/wife was going to sweep you off your feet for an anniversary surprise, what would you want her to do? (keep it clean, please, I have that part covered ;) ) Our anniversary is approaching swiftly (two years) and I have more money than I ever have had to spend on it as I've been working lots and saving. My boyfriend is great at planning surprises and lovely days out and has always been in charge of the anniversary/birthday celebrations before, so I want to pay him back.
Would it knock your pride if your girlfriend wanted to take you out for an expensive meal and get you a nice present? Or would you prefer her to just make you something nice at home? Or take you away for the weekend? I just want to make it really good and not mess it up! Help!
Kristian 16-04-2005, 14:15 I don't think many men would have their pride damaged by their lady planning a surprise and doing something lovely for them.
Why not plan a romantic weekend away? There are some really good deals about if you look.
One of the nicest weekends I had was when my (now-ex (*spits*!)) partner called me to see what I was doing, and when I said 'not much', he told me to pack an overnight bag and be ready to set off in an hour.
Good luck Kathy!
I know I am a girl answering this but going out for a meal is something you can do anytime.
I would go for something a little special - a weekend away would be nice.
Depending on what type of bloke he is and how much you want to spend You either opt for a trip to London to see a show or a trip to Alton Towers staying in there Hotel or even Euro Disney.
Even a balloon ride could be nice, but only you know what kind of thing he would like.
Hope some of these ideas help a bit and Happy Anniversary.
I'd be all for Alton Towers!
As a bloke the sort of thing I liked was a weekend somewhere in some quiet countryside preferably at a small hotel /b&b in a village with a good pub and restaurant.
Depending when your anniversary is perhaps you could also consider flying out from the new Doncaster / Finningley Airport somewhere for the weekend.

But wouldn't she miss him?:suspect:
You could visit owdlad and me at Twycross Zoo.
If it was me I'd go for the weekend away. How about Ludlow? Fantastic countryside around this little village, lovely country pubs and more Michelin restaurants than you can shake a stick at. Have a look at this (http://www.ludlow.org.uk/)
Kthebean 16-04-2005, 17:07 Saxon51, you're just being silly today! :)
Thankfully, my guy's not really that interested in sports, so I don't have to arrange it around grandstand or MOTD!
Ludlow looks lovely! Although he is the only one that can drive at the mo, so I wouldn't want to go too far afield. Thanks for your suggestions :)
have a look at red letter days. Buy him a voucher for some time on the track (not through redletters, they cost an arm and a leg, but are good for ideas).
You probably won't enjoy it quite as much as him, but that would be one of the coolest presents I can think of my SO getting me.
Maybe go down to the location the night before, a night in the hotel, meal, track time the next day, photo's etc... then home.
muddycoffee 16-04-2005, 17:41 Why not pay for a weekend in Paris or Amsterdam. If you go to the star office, they are always doing 2 for one offers, for around £120. Those city breaks are great we have been a few times.
muddycoffee 16-04-2005, 17:52 Or for a cheaper break, you can both go to london for a day on the master cutler train first class. we did this a couple of years ago on my birthday, and booked early on the web and it was fairly cheap. The journey was fast and the porters wait on you as you luxuriate in a big comfy seat.
We had a fantastic day in london, highlights were the boat trip on the thames, the saachi gallery, a bit of shopping, dinner in harrods, mime artists and performers etc..

I like it! Cheap, effective, beer...
(although, the idea is it's supposed to be DIFFERENT to what we normally do! ;) )

Kthebean 18-04-2005, 08:56 Well, I've booked something now which I think will be pretty good! (not going to post what it is in case he comes and has a look - j, get back to your work :) )
Thanks for all your suggestions! Will let you all know how it goes!
Promise to let us know what it was after - I might nick the idea off you.
Kthebean 07-05-2005, 13:19 Just to update you all!
We have just spent two nights at the lovely snake pass inn on snake pass, been walking about and picnicing and stuff, has been lovely! Staff were friendly, room was lovely and the food was great and very reasonable. Would reccommend it to anyone.
He was very happy that I'd surprised him like that and organised the whole thing. It was a great success!
