View Full Version : In defence of the Sprout
upholder 12-10-2003, 18:26 Sprouts have had a hard time on this forum of late and it's not fair.
Who else will defend this Wonder Food
Edit: Deleted link and details to wrong sprout website.
Thanks robh for pointing that out.
I am an oaf
I am of course referring to Brussels Sprouts.
alchresearch 12-10-2003, 18:30 They're great for making your wind stink.
DaBouncer 12-10-2003, 18:43 I LURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRVE Sprouts!
Is this 'cos I listed sprouts on my Pet Hates?
I don't care how much science there is behind the sprout - they are still nasty little green things that taste horrid.
Q: What's the difference between sprouts and bogies?
A; Children eat bogies!
Long live the sprout!
They're just like baby cabbages!
kittykat 12-10-2003, 19:41 Theyre absolutely foul everytime i attempt to eat one i automatically start gagging and it stays in my mouth for ages before i can swallow the damn thing but in its defence i do feel a lot healthier after ive had a few of them. No pain no gain.

I think there's some confusion going on here. I think the sprouts under discussion heretofore were Brussels sprouts whereas your link and the wording of your post would appear to indicate sprouted seeds (like the bean-sprouts in Chinese food).
I'm sure I remember seeing a picture of a sprout tree once. Is it true that sprouts grow on trees?
I neither love nor hate sprouts, but they're infinately nicer than cabbage, which is grim.
Phanerothyme 12-10-2003, 21:09 fresh sprouts, not overcooked, some butter and black pepper -yum.
old sprouts, cooked until grey and mushy, served up with leatherback potatoes and reformed 'meat' slices at ten thousand 'banqueting' halls up and down the country, every year on year - yuck.
Sprouts are wonderful. Cabbage (with butter and black pepper) is also bloody marvelous.
Other non veg treats include...
Snails
Frogs legs
Liver
Kidney
Heart
Black pudding
Pigs trotters
Cickens feet (in black bean sauce!)
Sea food (mussels, prawns, oysters, lobster, crab etc)
Never eaten an eyeball or brain yet. Anyone every tried them?
hiyabeing 13-10-2003, 11:55 I LOVE cabbage... but Sprouts are just evil.

Zamo, being a Southern git ;) I'd have thought jellied eel might have figured on your treats list.

I like eel but not too keen on the jellied variety. Plain boiled eel with mash and a good helping of liquor- luvley me old china!
Classic Rock 14-10-2003, 09:16 Fresh ones are much nicer than frozen ones, and still slightly crisp when served. I hate soggy sprouts.....still like the taste though.
