I have a job to do this weekend, and I'm not looking forward to it :(
I can hire a wallpaper stripper from HSS for £18, or I can buy one for a little more, but then I have it cluttering up the garage in case I ever have the urge again.
What should I do?

I'd buy as it would be less expensive over the long run. Once you've paid for it that will be it, but if you just hire then you'll have to shell out again as and when you decide to decorate again.
I'd buy it - you can always sell it on.
Also you can take as long as you like stripping cos you are not restricted in getting it back to the hire shop.
On the other hand - if you hire it you will be forced to finish the job instead of popping off for a pint!
Sorry - not very helpful am I!!! :loopy:

i got mine form argos, i think it was about £20 and its not big so it doesnt take up much space and it managed to get through about 6 layers of paper and paint on one wall when i was decorating my daughters room!
i'll edit with a link :P
this is the one ive got! (http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=3151&productId=117063&clickfrom=image)
they have others though more expensive though
here (http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=3151&langId=-1&searchTerms=wallpaper+stripper)
OK then it seems that I should buy one. The commitment to future stripping all seems a bit final, sort of like going into DIY Hell.
Anyway, those links were very useful, so now I have committed to buying, which one?
I like the idea of a simple one that just does what it says it does, but like a typical bloke I saw the one with all the add on gadgets and I imagined myself steam cleaning all my possessions, which is obviously something I have needed to do for years but just not got around to. :suspect:
So do I go for a simple strip, or do I start doing the oven / window frames / car wheels and enter steam sanitising heaven?
You KNOW you need the one with all the extra attachments. Your life WILL be enriched, you will be a better human being through the acquisition of gadgets.
Restrain yourself - go for the bog standard one and save money.
Unless you are going to take up STRIPPING as a career, it's pointless getting silly gadgets that you don't really need.
Money saved could go towards a well deserved drink or two.
Another tip - if buying from a DIY store just go to the one aisle that has strippers before you end up with all manner of unnecessary tools and gadgets!!!
What is it with men and DIY shops!!! :loopy:
I'm not allowed to go to B&Q unaccompanied any more :(
You can borrow mine. It's a bog standard steamer.
Dawny1... I succumbed to the £31 gadget laden kit :help:
Max, thanks for the offer, but at around 1pm today I collected my equipment from Argos :gag:
I now have a room with no wallpaper, a basic steamer that works a treat, and a box full of unrecognisable attachment gadgety things that I know I will never need or use.
Alloy wheel cleaning service anyone?
Oh Dear - no self control. Maybe you could take up sculpture and make some kind of modern art object with useless attachments - you never know you could sell it for thousands!
I suggest in future all men should go accompanied to DIY shops like hotphil otherwise set up a self help group of some kind to try to get over the gadget obsession. :help:
