My baby boy is now 10 1/2 weeks old. He has a few toys but not very many.

He is starting to spend more and more time awake during the day now he sleeps through at night and I am after some suggestions to keep him occupied (and bring on his development of course!!)

At the moment I am always talking to him, letting him look at his reflection (which he smiles and talks to himself!) He has a playmat, bouncy chair (but he ends up falling asleep in that) and Mr Elephant which plays a well known (but annoying) classical tune.

Does anyone have any tried and tested games or toys suitable for babies that cannot sit up but are well aware of their surroundings!!!

Peek a Boo has been a firm fave with both mine from very early. Have you thought about baby massage, it gets you interacting with them at this very early stage. Babies at your sons age often just like staring at their mummies and massage is a good way of bonding with them.

I am going to go to the next block of baby massage with him. He does like round and round the garden on his belly!

Any little 'portable' toys you could recommend?

I htink there is so much for them to look at in this world, even a simple walk in the pram is enough, and if ever the weather is dry, then time on a rug under the trees. Reading also works if you sit them on your lap - Adam loves Dr Seuss and has done for a long time!

I'm off to read his Mr Men books to him!!! I am always walking (my means of travelling! ha ha)

Looks like I am doing what everyone else does. I sometimes think is there anything else I could do?

You could play music and have a boogie with him or with him as your audience. Chairobics to music, him in a bouncy chair and you gently moving his limbs or bouncing the chair a little.
He could have things to hold like a (clean) tissue, a small and preferably plastic spoon, things which look good when waved around:) Balloons on a short string can be good and safe under supervision.
Have you got bubbles? We used to lay our daughters on the floor or in their seats and blow bubbles in the ar which got them very excited.
And, anything you do is the greatest interest to a child, especiall if you give them eye contact and talk to them whilst you do it. Hanging out the washing, putting your make up on, washing the dishes, anything :)

:) Thanks Zebra for those suggestions (thanks everyone else too!) I am definately going to try those. We are always doing something (when he is awake) but I wanted to add a bit of variety.
