Who would be so heartless as to do that?

Unfortunately some pondlife just can't leave anything alone. Lets hope whoever took it decides to try to kick out a panel of a concrete fence next.

Someone stole Kurt Cobain's ashes not so long ago too. Not only is it sad that people would do such a thing, but it also shows the disturbing way in which people hold celebrities up, especially dead ones, as effigies.

This doesn't surpise me really.Ive lost track of the amount of times the road name "Penny lane" has disappeared from down near the Crown pub in Totley

Yes, but Penny Lane is just a bit of council property. Ian Curtis's gravestone is a family memorial. There's a difference.

I once met Debbie Curtis at a wedding. It's my one tenuous link to fame.

Oh, how awful - how horrible for his family :(

Where is the respect? Why would someone even think to do this?

I remember that - what a sick thing to do. The selfishness of some people is just UNBELIEVABLE
