We took Loki to the vets tonight for his second round of jabs, which went fine.

We also took Ianto to meet the vet for the first time and have him checked out. The vet took one look at his teeth and said he needs urgent surgery so he is going back in tomorrow morning for one extraction and possibly two others. He also needs rechipping as the vet cannot find any trace of his chip, despite us having paperwork - I'm so pleased that he checked, we'd be devastated if he went missing and they couldn't trace him back to us.

Keep your fingers crossed for him tomorrow and send him lots of love.

aww hun the teeth is bad enough but i am sure he will come through. My old dog Zak was 16 and his chip had died lol so we had to have it done again , he was fine and lived another 4 years, i am so glad we had them chipped not that we have ever lost them but if we did we would stand a chance of getting them back.
Thinking of you tomorrow hun

We've got to arrange to take Amber in for dental - but in the meantime she's been switched to Royal Canin Oral Sensitive food and we've always used logic get and more recently Palque-Off- cats in particular appear to have more dental problems these days (or maybe they always had them and we're only just becoming more aware of them). When Ashia had her teeth extracted it was £270+ (major work in her case) so I'm dreading having to find the dosh for Amber - it isnt normally covered by pet insurance

Good luck Ianto - if it's only a couple of teeth he'll only be sedated for a brief time and he'll be back munching his biscuits before you know it, so much happier (unlike your bank balance) xK

aw bless him, he was so hungry this morning and looked very optimistically at the good cupboard :|

Vet called to say he has had his surgery and is now in recovery. Everything went well apparently and his blood tests (for kidney function etc) were good. OH is picking him up at 3.45pm. OH thinks he has had both back teeth and both canines out ... :(

We were quoted £205 for all dental work, blood tests & chip. Vet said it wouldn't go up - he classed it as a 'level 2' or 'grade 2' treatment.

I'm going to Morrisons tonight on the way home to get him some fresh prawns as a little treat to try and encourage him to eat. He goes back on Monday for post-op check.

The vet is great, I cannot recommend them enough - Pets 4 Vets (he snuggled Loki last night when he was giving him his jab:love:)

I asked about insurance and our vet said that usually dental work wasn't covered, which was reassuring to us, as we decided not to go down the insurance route. We decided to just take the hits as they come. Hopefully we've just got Loki's neutering costs left this year, fingers crossed.

aww, he looks a bit sorry for himself and he is very hungry, but seems happy enough.

He is managing to eat OK, but afterwards is rubbing his mouth with both paws and hurting himself - at the same time he is falling forwards onto his head

I'm hoping he is just going to sit quietly tonight. I think he new nickname is going to be gummy :)

It isn't usually - but in Ashia's case, the vet said it was special and he completed the insurance form and M&S actually paid our all but the excess, but we never really thought they would.

I used to have insurance for all the cats but when they started quoting at least £13 per month per cat [we've got 8!] (plus I already pay £31 per month for the dobermutt!), it just got silly, so now I put a little money aside each month to cover what I can - since fuel and heating bills shot up that's not as much as I would have liked, hence not yet got enough to pay for Amber's dental, but at least I'm not throwing insurance money away every month like I was for the first 4 years of having her and her sisters/bros
