My dog, Lassie, is maulting terribly this year. There's fur everywhere! I brush her all the time, but the darn fluff just comes back and covers everything, Im going round in circles, and Lassie is as fed up as me! When she shakes after Ive brushed her, Im back to square one!
Apart from shaving her or hoovering her, :hihi:, is there anything that can be done to at least improve it?
Has anyone else noticed that their furry little friends are covered in a mountain of fur? Maybe it has something to do with the weather?
What do you think?

Mine just moults constantly, all year round, so not really noticed much difference. If you find a way to improve it though, do share! lol. On the subject of hoovering her, they do make an attachment for a Dyson, with a brush on it to groom n hoover. There's no way my mobile fur ball would tolerate this unfortunately as he attacks the hoover from time to time anyway

Yeah, I'm having the same problem at the moment and he's short haired but it's still quite noticable. He malted badly in April and is now doing the same again, I have hoovered every night for the past two weeks- seems to be calming down a little, so hopefully that will be it for a another few months!

Happy brushing.

my dog is terrible for this
i cut the top off a capsul of evening primrose oil
you can buy these most anywhere and mix it in her dog food
1 a week. and she seemes alot better.not half as many millions of hairs.
also sardines are suppose to be good
a tin a week keeps their coats nice and in good condition and good for them too.
cost about 15p a tin ;o)

I was feeding him sardines stuffed into his Kong which I think all dogs love! but I am trying to avoid fish at the moment as he started to get an itchy tummy and armpits? and loose his fur there. Went to the vet to check it was not anything serious.

The only thing I can think of that may be causing it is either fish or grass pollen as they are two things he did not get contact with in the rescue. I'm feeding meat and mixer like they did because he refused to eat dried food, the fish is the easiest to avoid so i'm trying that for a month first!

I've got a feeling it's grass pollen though and malting season! I'll have to try the evening primrose- will it make him less grumpy!

I have 2 long haired dogs and cope with a shedding blade, a rake and a variety of feathering combs. I also use a zoom groom but not as often as the others.

Lassies diet includes fish and she gets an itchy tummy too. Do you think that could be a cause? Shes had her flea treatments so she hasnt got them. I thought she was just getting too hot.
She's an old doggy, bless her. if I gave her a kong, she'd look at me in disgust because she'd have to get out of bed and chew it!! :D

Are they good katkin? I have what i think is called a stripping knife, it has 2 handles which fasten together so the knife is a looped shape, with 2 serated edges - one being a fine blade and one more coarse. This does work, but sometimes i feel it's a bit evil on his spine although he doesn't seem to mind. I could keep on brushing him forever though, and the fur just keeps on comin.....

I've got a furminator its brilliant forTimba the gsd, I took it with me to the woods and when i'd done looked like I'd left a dog behind,
I have to stop cos you could just go on forever especially this time of year,
I bought mine from ebay, from a hong kong seller I was a bit wary at first but as is wasn't that expensive thought I wouldn't lose much if it didn't arrive, but it was here two days later.

i got my shedding blade from blackpool champ show but i have found this https://www.theanimalark.co.uk/Dogs/Grooming/Small_Shedding_Blade_14.html i paid £4 for mine
if its for a big dog i would try horse and rider at crookes but the smaal ones are good for getting in all the nooks and crannies

Mine isn't strictly a furrminator - I got it for a tenner from an NEC Show last Xmas and it doesnt have a brandname on it but it is basically the same principle and brilliant- OK, I don't use it on the low-maintenance dobermutt but I've got 8 cats, 4 of which are semi long haired and one oldie who hates being brushed- with this gizmo you can strip out all that dead underfur without stressing out your pet and it's amazing how much comes off. Brilliant - no dragging through the fur, no screaming feline. Always looks like we've created another cat, the amount of fur we get off each after we've brushed them with it - I would say it's probably a lot kinder on the spine than the stripping comb thing too.

You can get something similar to the Zoom Groom from most pound/tat shops - good for getting fur off car upholstery too (but then, so are rubber gloves).

So what would you search for to find a no brand FURminator? I'd like to try one but £40 is a lot before you've seen how good one is.
