View Full Version : Water Bombing Championships - ‘Sheffield Forum Team’?
super_pie 15-04-2005, 18:51 Granted, I’m fairly new around here but I’m nothing if not keen on doing interesting things with interesting people. So......
I was just reading the paper and noticed Ponds Forge are staging the “World Water Bombing Championships” on May 19th. There asking for local companies and groups to put forward teams of 4 people to take part in the championship and give it some ‘top bombing!’ Lots of sheffield companies have already got teams (siv, irwin mitchell, asda, premier travel ect) Now I already know my current work colleges are too boring for this sort of thing, so I began to think that perhaps this might be a chance for the forum...
We could put forward a team under the name sheffieldforum.co.uk (nice advertising, plus good PR for the site), we could have a good bit of fun and maybe even win. Forum members could make up the team, and those that don’t want to, could come along and give their support (a large crowd is expected apparently)
I'm just asking for a few opinions and thoughts. Who would we need to ask, to get permission to compete on behalf of the forum? Is anybody interested? Am I wasting my breath?
Not jumping the gun, but I’d like to put myself forward as one of the team. Generally I just think it’d be a fun thing to do.
If people seem interested I’ll try and find out some more info. Wad’a you think?

Oh yes - what a great idea.....do you think the 'team' would be able to bomb with their new Forum T-shirts on...LOL!!!

World Championship Going like a Bomb
Well, sheffield has staged just about every other sports event so perhaps it should not come at too much of a surprise to discover that the inaugural World Water Bombing Championship are being held in the diving pool at Ponds forge on May 19th.
The competition, sponsored by Redrat Events, was launched on Tuesday by, inevitably, Herol 'Bomber' Graham.
He is encouraging teams to sign up for the event, which will raise cash for the macmillian Cancer Relief's £1 million charity appeal for specialist nurses, services and patient grants in Sheffield and North Derbyshire.
Paul Hudson, sales manager at Sheffield International Venues, which Managers Ponds Forge, said "This is a really quirky event which has captured the imagination of a host of city businesses."
Teams of Four contenders from 20 Sheffield companies, including hosts sheffield International Venues, Irwin Mitchell, Asda and Premier Travel Inn, have already signed up.
Competitors will be awarded points for stylish entry and the height of splash after the water bomb.
The event begins at 6:45 and spectators can watch free of charge.
Entry forms are available from SIV facilities or by contacting Paul HUdson on 2233640. Over 18s only.
Definately sounds like fun to me - if not been beaten to it by everyone else put me down for a bit of that!
Do let me know if u need me tho so I can sort other stuff out.

x_LoUiSe_x 20-04-2005, 11:44 sounds a good idea, i wouldnt be on the team but id go along and support people!
super_pie 20-04-2005, 20:32 Have got the forms to fill in. But as ever with this type of thing there is a minimum you have to raise for charity (£400) to gain entry, which is a shame. If anybody people think we can do that, well we'll have a try (let me know). But it's probobly to near the event to make it.
However I'm going to keep my eye open, i'm sure there are lots of things this forum can do.
Oh, by the way. Its still a free event to go whatch if you want. There's an elite diving display on as well
pigtails 21-04-2005, 12:30 Please email info@ponds-forge.co.uk to request an entry pack - we can send it electronically or by post....
Only a few team places left... and yes you can jump in your forum t-shirts! Fancy dress is fine - just remember you need to swim in it!
We do want each team to raise £400 for MacMillan Cancer Relief - that's only £100 per team member.
Hope to see your forum team there......

It's this Thursday, is anyone going? My work was gonna put a team in but couldn't get enough.
My kid has asked me to take her to watch, so we'll be there - it's all for a good cause!
Apparantly it's going to be on the Paul O' Grady show, and he's entered his firemen (as a team)!
Sorry couldn't write that previous sentence without it coming across as being rude!
