Could you, or someone you know, benefit from a free fire safety check?

BBC Radio Sheffield has teamed up with Fire & Rescue Services in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire to run a month long campaign to get people to book a free household fire safety check and get a free smoke alarm fitted.

The campaign called ‘Cause for Alarm’ is prompted by the high numbers of fires where smoke alarms were not fitted in homes which could have saved lives.

If interested, call the special Community Service Volunteers ‘Hotline’ on 0114 267 5444 to sign up for a free 20 minute Household ‘Fire Risk Assessment’ check.

These checks are aimed at people who are elderly, vulnerable, or disabled but also include people with children, people without smoke alarms and those who use chip pans or who smoke at home.

New Government cash has been made available to fund the free household checks and to provide the free smoke alarms.

The campaign begins on Tuesday 4th April and lasts until 4th May 2005.
