Hi
I'm currently with FF2.0.0.14 & have downloaded the setup.exe to my desktop & am dwelling on changing because of a fiew things!

1.I've heard it needs me to manually download all my plugins for active x & flash etc manualy!

2. Does it overwrite my old version?, i've heard that people who have FF2, can't uninstall it when they have FF3, i dunno! Maybe Pie in the sky, but any thought & tips appreciated!!

I can't say about on Windows, but on Linux it doesn't overwrite FF2. It detected the fact that one of my plugins wouldn't work with it, but asked if I wanted to download & install the version which did.
It also copied my settings and favorites to itself, so I had nothing to do manually.

most plugins are go! Still waiting for fasterfox, but you can manually edit it to work with FF3 if you can be bothered. Instructions were on the forum somewhere....

No, it does everything automatically for you and as it stands you are unlikely to be running something in FF2 that won't run in FF3.

Yes, FF3 replaces FF2 but it doesn't replace your profile. Once you upgrade everything is just the same and if for some bizarre reason you want to return to FF2, just uninstall FF3 and install FF2 and it'll be like you never left.

FF3 is just about the best software update to grace this organisation in many years and I'm very very pleased with it. I'm also as pleased with the addon developers' speed in making sure their addons are FF3 ready.

Put simply: If you are using FF2, upgrade and upgrade now.

Sorry for jumping your thread, but does anyone know if its possible to change the address bar drop down area so that it just shows the web address and not the title etc?

To add a non-compatible plugin:

download the xpi file (you can get this from the list of all versions of the plugin, even if the 'add to firefox' button is greyed out)
rename it to .zip
extract install.rdf and open in notepad
change the maxversion number to 3.* and save
insert the edited rdf file back into the archive
rename back to .xpi
drag onto addons panel

@bluedragon - don't think there's a way to do that, at least not in the options panel (that I can see).

Not to widdle on your outdoor cooking area mate, but the simplest way isto install MR Tech Toolkit, formerly known as Mr Tech Local Install (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/421) and then on installation select "Override Maxversion compatibility checking". It also lets you remove the installation delay :)

Fasterfox (and general pipelining "tweaks" for firefox) are a lot less efficient than people believe anyway..

If people want me to back up this statement I will I just don't have the energy right now to go into detail!

I'd love to know how to do that too! My first gripe with FF3. My second was that enormous back button.

I've gotten used to the back button now but i still don't like all that info in the address bar.

What info? Any chance of a screenshot of it? I just have the address in mine and that's it.

Reseearch shows that the "back" button is the most used button on any browser. People use it more than most of the others put together

I don't use it at all, I use the left nudge on the mouse scroll-wheel instead.

FF3 now shows the favicon and page title, as well as URL when you drop-down the address bar... as shown HERE (http://mozillalinks.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/locationbar_2lines.png)...

Yes, i quite understand _why_ they've made it bigger... but i personally don't need or want it to be bigger. I would've liked the option to turn it off, just as i would have liked to turn of the "2-line" address bar. But i'm having to learn to live with both these annoyances. (i tried moving to Opera, but since gmail doesn't appear to work very well in that it's a non-starter)

The large back button is entirely down to the default skin afaik... I tend to use pimpzilla and both buttons are the same size on that one.

LOL.. the whole point is that even the FF3 betas were more stable than FF2.

I generally agree and wait until the second or third minor revision before I roll something out to the company and my own desktops, but FF3 is a very special exception.

FF3 isn;t really unstable though, it's more stable than most of the stuff you use. FF2 and FF3 both have their flaws.
