Just watched Working Lunch on TV - they featured a growing selling/advertising web site designed by a group of mates who were fed up with being ripped off by ebay fees.

Is costs £5 per annum to open an account with them and you can buy/sell as many items as you want for 12 months!! No listing or final value fees per item !!!!

It is really taking off as it combines the public selling items/small business advertising & selling items/and the larger chain stores can list special offers and links to their main web pages!!

So it's like Ebay and the Yellow Pages on one website!!!!

Have a look - see what you think!!

www.thepeoplesweb.com

You can join for £1 til the end of the month!!!

I bet they are loving the free publicity from the BBC, and all the extra visitors that crashed the site!! :hihi:

User interface was....interesting.

Big plus for ebay has always been that it was pretty easy to navigate and fast even on crap connections. That's not always as true today but this site needs help.

What will be interesting is whether people are willing to pay the fee up front of buying. Probably a good price for regular buyers and sellers, but for 'one off' purchasers?

Also, community building and getting buyers and sellers in there - only time will tell. I worry a bit about the largeR stores being there selling; ebay tried this a few years ago and there was a perceived conflict of interest.

But, brave try.
