I just come from Whitby. These are my 3 best photos...

what are peoples opinions...

The best is the first image, the middle photo comes in 3rd place for me. Not sure why though .,

For me two of these are 'so nearly there' pics (this from a grand master of nearly there pics!).

I like the Abbey pic tho it has a lot of black foreground. Maybe a little less of that and more of that fabulous deep blue sky would be better, or even just get in closer to lose the foreground and see more detail in the floodlit ruin.

The middle pic doesn't work for me at all - over exposed for a sunset which is all I can see in it.

The last one is a fab sunset with a wonderful sky but just doesn't need the piers at all. The clouds make a great shape leading in to the sunset and you could almost lose the bottom half of the pic completely.

You have a good eye for a pic.

Im gonna call myself a nef ninnie, and stop playing with the exposure settings... I had exposed the top one right, and obviously hadnt noticed when i uploaded it that i just must have slid the exposure wrong... easily done i guess. I could re expose it better, but some people might say I was "cheating" lol so heres another thats exposed rightly.

Its strange how some people are happy with a simple sunset, and some just need that placement to know where it was taken. Each to their own.

As regards to the Abbey. Yes, I see it now, I have looked through the rest and if i had just pointed my camera up a bit it would have worked better. This is a square format one that achieves this well. Its the first one i have changed to square format.

Thanks for the help and ideas. I have lots of photos of Whitby, its both the joy and curse of digital, knowing which to throw and which to keep.

If anyones interested I didn't "break in" to the abbey to get these photos. I stayed in the Youth hostel just next door. Brilliant night views from there!
