Tbh though, I am sick to death of hearing about my bum. :rant::rant::rant::rant:

I like like having my back scratched quite a lot but, being content with how I am, couldn't really give a toss about my ego, but seem to spend rather a lot of time massaging those of certain women friends.

I'm a bloke, and I quite like having my back scratched, especially when I've got an itch (cos my arms are too short for me to be able to reach to scratch itches myself)

we may try and claim to have no care for our ego, but I defy anyone to gain no pleasure at all from having your ego ever so sweetly massaged, it is a splendid feeling and if you could bottle it, I think we might just live in a happier place. It doesnt have to be about making someone swell-headed, just reminding someone that they are special, even if it's just special to you, that is worth more than any material gift.

I really do like my back being scratched (honestly). And I have rather been occupied of late trying to assist in rebuilding a couple of shattered confidences.

I agree - appreciating a compliment is hardly a sole indication of the desire to have one's ego massaged.
