I have just moved into a detached place, and although most of my wage is now going on rent, it is sooo worth it. Who needs food when you have peace and quiet?

Honestly, the sigh of relief I made could have been mistaken for an orgasm.

Peace and quiet! At last! Freedom! You also can't beat the feeling of being able to play your own music loud at 3am if you so wish, without fear of disturbing an adjoining neighbour.

Not really my cup of tea :rant:

I'm not saying all flats are bad, but one can only go on experience and the past 3 flats I've lived in have all had noise problems.

I like my house, but it seems wherever I go, I am cursed with noisy neighbours, and unfortunatley we are attached to them. I wish I still had my old neighbours. These ones shout and swear loudly and smoke weed even though they have 2 young children. Their daughter throws stuff in our garden e.g. broken spacehoppers, a hammer. I'm sure shes been in the garden too.

This is quite unfortunate for you im afraid. Not everyone is aware of the noise they make and how it can offend their neighbours. Have you tried having a word with them about their behaviour and noise. This can sometimes help. We have fallen very lucky with our neighbours and they are very good. The worst we get is the young boy shouting and screaming at the football on TV.

Depends what type of apartment it is. Some that are built properly will have concrete floors on each floor with thick insulation to the walls. You don't hear a thing.

It depends a lot on what type of neighbours you have. If you have neighbours who play load music and bang around you will hear them whatever the level of sound proofing. The only way to never hear your neighbours is to get a detached house.

But the modern flats that are thrown up at minimum expense are usually made using the cheapest materials and methods available.
