OBOne 15-04-2005, 09:58 AM Hello, I've just broken up from a long term relationship and i'm wanting to make a new social life. I've read about the meet on Sunday nights at the Devonshire Cat. Is there one this sunday? I'm really nervous about going into the pub on my own though, did anybody else feel like this? I'm worried about trying to find you and looking like a fool, is there a particular place that you sit?
rubydazzler 15-04-2005, 10:05 AM You need to look here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36195) .
The forummers usually sit fairly near the door ... just stand looking a bit lost and look for a group of noisy lolling ppl (some may even be wearing their Forum t-shirts).
We all feel nervous meeting new ppl the first time. There's a wide age range and everyone is there to have a good evening, a drink and a laugh.
Be warned though, if you don't look like a fool before you meet us, you certainly may afterwards :P (kidding!)
BruciesBabe 15-04-2005, 10:30 AM Hi OBOne,
I was in exactly the same position as you 2 months ago and I went along to my first meet. I was really nervous, but haven't looked back since. They are a great group of people and I have a whole new social life with them and have made some good friends.
I doubt I'll be there this week as I'm in Southampton, but go along. Its worth it.
msbehavin 15-04-2005, 10:36 AM One of them will always agree to meet you outside and come in with you if you like!!!

not me though cos i run on rubytime and i'm always late ... and not msb either cos she often tells us she'll be there, then later posts her (extremely inventive and unprovable) apologies for non attendance :P
Tracie 15-04-2005, 06:20 PM I'm happy to meet you outside beforehand if you still need someone to do so :)
EDIT : I was a right bag of nerves the first time I went along to one of the meets... but as every has said, they are great fun and the people are fantastic :P You'll never look back! :D
OBOne 15-04-2005, 06:39 PM Hello all, thanks very much for all your replies, I feel a lot better about comming now. Provided my nerves hold out on sunday i will see you then.
Thanks very much for the offer of meeting me outside, but i'm not sure what time i'll be down for so i'll see you in there all being well.
TheWatcher 15-04-2005, 06:50 PM Unfortunately I shall be next door in the Washy for one of the staffs birthdays and the quiz night.
super_pie 15-04-2005, 08:10 PM Sorry to crash in on the post. But I considering putting in an first appearance myself. Get the nervous first introduction's out of the way.
I hope you will all be gentle with me; i'm a nervous type (I'm fooling no one am I? ;) )
So at least OBOne knows he won't be the only one looking around nervously trying to work out who's who (cause I will)

Have you ever been to a meet - or do you just sit in a corner WATCHING?
*cue spooky music*
You might have appeared less scary had you been *The Observer*
or actually, no maybe not! :P

I lead a complicated life!!! Have now stopped saying I am coming to anything and then just turn up and surprise everyone!! Seems to work better that way!
millsy3265 16-04-2005, 01:30 AM OBOne - I posted a similar message a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't make the meet last Sunday but am going this week. Feel similar to you, a little apprehensive etc., but what the heck? Nothing ventured nothing gained. I'm sure once the initial nervousness is over everything will be fine and we'll be wondering what we were worrying about. !!!
adlinds 17-04-2005, 12:58 PM I might pop down tonight hopefully, I too am a Forum Meet Virgin so look out for me wondering in around 8ish looking slightly lost. I'll keep an eye out for any Forum T-shirts and wonder over. It will be nice to put some faces to names, I feel like I know a lot of people on here anyway.
Hope to see you all tonight, Adlinds

Ok rubydazzler - you said in a post that you would be arriving late for last Sundays meet, and didn't turn up at all! We missed you!
So, own up, where were you - and don't give us any "extremely inventive and unprovable apologies for non attendance"!
Oh yes - and it was great to meet both OBOne and super_pie at their first forum meet (which was also mine).
Anyone who hasn't been to a meet, but feels nervous about doing so - please PM Kristian, Sian or me, and one of us will arrange to introduce ourselves first. You will be made very welcome.
pammy 26-04-2005, 02:03 PM thank you - need to build up my social life where is the dev cat?? am SO out of touch.

TimmyR 26-04-2005, 03:17 PM I'm not that nervous a person but unfortunately can't make it this sun. You meet every sun???? I'd def like to revive my social life which has suffered a bit since I left uni and all my friends migrated to london (not something I'll ever do!)
I may be free one sunday soon...Might be able to put some faces to pseudonyms!
Tim

Come on, tell the truth, all the mod's all sit in a corner eavesdropping, and tell folk to 'keep on topic'! :D
Seriously, they really are friendly affairs, you should all come down to the cat soon!
