I am planning on taking my driving test in my own car. On the DSA website it says my car needs:

a head restraint fitted to the front passenger seat ('slip-on' head restraints are not allowed on the test);

What is this, and where can I get one?

.depending on the make and model of your car try a scrap yard.wilf jays at treeton are good .and clean! though i thought a head restraint was a head rest???

They used to be called head rests, but this was a misnomer as not many people can rest their heads against them and be comfortable.

They are now called head 'restraints' with regards the prevention of whiplash injury and the 'restraint' in rearwards head movement.

You'd have to be deformed to rest your head on my head restraints. If I put my head back that far I'm looking at the roof lining.

Any scrap yard should have some, and a lot of models have the same slide-in fittings.

Sorry, I'm still a little confused! Do you just mean its the thing you rest your head on that most normal cars already have(the ones you can move up and down)? I was picturing some strap or cage to go round the examiners head or something!

Kathy, if in doubt, PM Saxon (not saxon51!!) as he is in the business.

But.....

If you have headrests on your front seats - the slide up and down type - your are correctly kitted out.

The instructor/tester needs to be protected for his own safety, and some people remove head rests (restraints) for personal reasons.

They're just reminding you to put yours back in if they're out.
