Hello all
This is just to let all the ex pats who may be interested know that all the old buildings on Gibralter Street in the Shalesmoor area are being demolished as we speak.
I drive home through the area every evening and The old Pheasant Pub building has gone together with the Nags Head.

Lots of other smaller terrace buildings have also gone. I'm 41 and have never seen the area so bereft of buildings

The development is part of the road building linking part of Sheffields' ring road and they propose to go right through the Kelham Island/Alma Street district. One of the last pieces of Victorian Industrial Sheffield left.

Oh, they decided to preserve the last survivingBlast Furnace belonging to Doncasters situated now in splendid isolation on Doncaster Street

Sorry Darren, the furnace at Doncasters is a cementation furnace. The method of steel making is different.
For more details take a look at:

According to the site, this is the last cementation furnace in the country.

Yes you are 100% correct and here's me angling for a job at Kelham Island industrial Museum and getting my elementaries wrong
Thanks

I love modernization.

Sentimentality can be provided for with museums and photos.
