Hi everyone, does anyone have experience of applying for maternity allowance? We filled in the form and sent into the DWP, but we haven't heard anything back for more than a month. Another couple at our antenatal classes are having the same problem.

Tried calling them but just keep getting sent round in circles, and the Job Centre Plus in Sheffield said its not within their remit.

If anybody knows another way to get in touch with the powers that be it would be very much appreciated!

yes i have had problems however mines are due to having 2 jobs and they want an smp 1 from both even though the 2nd i have not worked at for 3 months and have handed my notice in!!

The jobcentre i went to was very helpful , the maternity allowance dept moved back in April and did not send out the new address/pre paid envelopes to them until last couple of weeks. Its possible if you did not have the correct address then its gone AWOL! I sent my stuff off and got it all back with a request for the 2 smp1 form within 2 weeks so it does sound as though you may have to apply again. The guy i spoke to said its almost impossible to phone that dept!!!!

I will post the address a but later once i get my paper work out. I filled out the application online and printed it off so it may be quicker for you to do that than to go back to the jobcentre :D
